Though it appeared he had a good chance of returning this week, Ravens linebacker Ray Lewis is not expected to play Sunday against the Giants, according to a report from NFL Network.

Lewis has been practicing for the past three weeks with hopes of returning for the end of the regular season. Lewis tore his triceps against Dallas in Week 6 and was placed on injured reserve-designated to return. There’s still a chance he can return for the postseason.

With Lewis out, LB Josh Bynes is in line for another start at his MLB spot. Lewis' teammates were hoping for a return this week.

"The guy's still in great shape,” Ravens DE Art Jones said. “The guy doesn't look like he missed a day of practice.

"When the offense is up and the scout team is (on defense), he's been running sprints with me to help me out, to get me in better conditioning. And I'm picking his brain as we're running sprints and stuff like that. This is a guy that's a great leader and is passionate and is an emotional leader. We love having him out there."

Teammate LB Dannell Ellerbe, who is hoping to return this week from an ankle sprain, said it’s been tough to gauge Lewis in practice since teams aren’t full-go at this time of the year.

"Ray's looked great,” Ellerbe said. “It's his triceps so he's going to be able to move around and look like Ray Lewis. We haven't had any full speed practices so you can't tell how his arm is when tackling and getting off blocks. But shape wise, he's in shape. If he could go right now I feel he would go."

With Lewis staying on the injured reserve-designated to return list, the Ravens promoted OLB Adrian Hamilton to the 53-man roster on Saturday.

The corresponding roster move was placing LB Jameel McClain (spinal cord contusion) on season-ending injured reserve.

With the Dallas Cowboys in the preseason, Hamilton had six tackles, one sack and one forced fumble. He was ultimately released by Dallas due to his unfamiliarity with special teams. The Ravens then signed him to their practice squad, which is where’s been all season.

In college at Prairie View A&M, Hamilton totaled 108 tackles, 26 sacks and 34.5 tackles for loss in two seasons. It’s unknown how much Hamilton will play on Sunday, though he could aid a pass rush that’s struggled early but has picked up as of late (34 sacks for the season). Despite being on the practice squad for 15 weeks, Hamilton became a local fan favorite in Baltimore, with Ravens fans often tweeting and calling into radio shows asking for him to be called up to the 53-man roster.
