Although the Ravens worked out former Browns guard Eric Steinbach on Tuesday, coach John Harbaugh said is unclear if the organization will sign him or not.
Eric Steinbach's a heck of a player," Harbaugh said. "I don't know where we stand but we're going to look for any good player we can."
Steinbach didn't play in 2011 with a back injury that placed him on IR. If the Ravens sign him, his addition would further add competition to the open LG spot created by Ben Grubbs leaving for New Orleans earlier this offseason. Also competing for the spot is Bobbie Williams, who signed with Baltimore in early June. Second-year lineman Jah Reid and rookie lineman Kelechi Osemele will also factor into the competition.
Reid, though, may have suffered a setback with a calf injury suffered during mandatory minicamp. Following Tuesday's practice, Harbaugh stated Reid tweaked his calf a couple of weeks ago and didn't offer a timetable for his return but indicated the injury still isn't serious. Osemele's dealing with back spasms and could practice as early as Wednesday.
Other notes: DE Pernell McPhee hasn't fully recovered from a minor arthroscopic procedure on his knee yet but could return to the practice field in the coming days. Harbaugh said McPhee's rehab was stunted when a personal issue caused him to miss a week.
WR David Reed is not expected to return to the team for training camp as he continues to recover from a torn ACL suffered last December against Cleveland. Harbaugh said it would be a major upset for Reed to be back for camp. In addition to hosting Steinbach, Harbaugh said the Ravens worked out some OLBs on Tuesday, but didn't mention any names.
