Three players to watch Sunday as the Redskins face the Bengals:
1. C Will Montgomery: The Bengals best defensive lineman, Geno Atkins, will shoot the gaps in the interior. That could prove to be disruptive in the Redskins’ stretch zone run scheme if Montgomery, as well as guards Kory Lichtensteiger and Chris Chester, struggle to contain the quick Atkins.
2. LB Ryan Kerrigan: With Brian Orakpo sidelined, the Redskins second-year pro must make sure his pass-rush production doesn’t suffer. If it does, then the Redskins will have problems. Kerrigan provided a good rush in the second half vs. St. Louis, with Orakpo sidelined. It’ll be interesting to see if the Redskins use him on the right side, as they did with Orakpo healthy.
3. DE Jarvis Jenkins: The Redskins need the second-year Jenkins to take over for injured Adam Carriker. Jenkins was going to mostly serve as a nickel pass rusher, but those plans changed. He’s not adept at occupying two blockers, something Carriker did well. Jenkins has a tendency to still look for the ballcarrier too much, getting too high in his stance, and ending up out of position. But Jenkins is strong and talented when he plays with good technique.
