Redskins linebacker Brian Orakpo suffered no structural damage to his left pectoral muscle and should be ready for the season opener vs. New Orleans. However, he won’t play again the rest of the preseason.
An MRI came back negative, providing the Redskins with a huge sigh of relief. He hurt his pec attempting to tackle Chicago’s Devin Hester in the open field Saturday night.
“Today I feel good,” Orakpo said. “The swelling has been down. I’m very optimistic about it. The injury wasn’t as significant as we originally thought.”
Coach Mike Shanahan also said safety Brandon Meriweather’s MRI came back negative too on his left knee. Shanahan said he’s still sore and called him day to day. He will not play in the final two preseason games.
