The Redskins' secondary suffered yet another loss, dampening their recent three-game winning streak. CB Cedric Griffin was suspended without pay for the rest of the regular season after testing positive for a performance-enhancing drug. Multiple sources told the Washington Examiner that Griffin tested positive for Adderall.
Griffin was the Redskins' No. 3 corner and his size enabled DeAngelo Hall to cover in the slot. Without Griffin, the Redskins could be in trouble. Rookie CB Richard Crawford hasn't played since Oct. 14 because of special teams issues. But he can cover in the slot, which would enable Hall to move back outside. D.J. Johnson was promoted off the practice squad on Nov. 6 and played in Monday's win over the New York Giants. He's better on special teams than Crawford. But Crawford's quick reactions make him a better fit in the slot. Johnson, at 6-foot-1, did play in the slot on a couple plays Monday and allowed one catch.
The Redskins lost S Tanard Jackson to an indefinite drug suspension in the summer. SS Brandon Meriweather played one game and tore his ACL vs. Philadelphia on Nov. 18.
Griffin missed three games earlier this season with a hamstring injury, and the Redskins went 1-2 in his absence with losses to Cincinnati and Atlanta.
