The Redskins cut defensive lineman Barry Cofield Friday, according to Cofield's agent Mike McCartney. The team later confirmed the report.
Cofield spent four seasons with Washington, including 2014 where he played in eight games, totaling seven tackles with one sack. He totaled 100 tackles and nine sacks in his four years with the Redskins.
The move will reportedly save the team $4.2 million in cap space with a $3.6 million cap hit, according to the Washington Post.
Cofield reportedly failed a physical, leading to his release.
