The Redskins’ offensive line now has two starters injured from its original five -- and training camp has only just begun.
LG Kory Lichtensteiger underwent arthroscopic surgery on his left knee Monday and likely won’t return until the Sept. 9 season opener. Doctors said he had loose particles that needed to be cleaned up but that his ACL and MCL, which he tore last season, are fine.
However, the Redskins also have RT Jammal Brown sidelined. He’ll undergo an MRI Tuesday in New York. Brown injured his hip running sprints the day before camp started. Maurice Hurt likely will replace Lichtensteiger. While coach Mike Shanahan has expressed confidence in him, Hurt is far from a consistent player. And RT Tyler Polumbus has been spotty thus far in camp. At 6-foot-8, he doesn’t always get low enough to be effective.
With a rookie QB in Robert Griffin III, the Redskins can’t afford lots of breaks in the line.
