RT Jammal Brown won’t need surgery on his hips, but that doesn’t mean he’ll play anytime soon. And he’ll remain on the physically unable to perform list indefinitely, coach Mike Shanahan said.
Brown’s doctor in New York checked out his left hip Tuesday and his right one Wednesday. The left hip was surgically-repaired in 2009 and has bothered him since he was traded to the Redskins in 2010. He re-injured the hip running sprints the day before training camp opened.
Brown told ESPN980 that he’s tired of hearing he needs to “rest and rehab.” That, in essence, is what Brown did all offseason. He took yoga and Pilates classes to help with flexibility and to loosen the scar tissue in his hip.
Now Brown and the Redskins aren’t sure when he’ll play.
“I can’t tell yet if he’s going to be healthy until he comes back here and gets anti-inflammatories and we see how it reacts,” coach Mike Shanahan said. “If he’s able to go and there’s a good chance he stays injury-free, he’ll stay on our football team. If not, obviously he can’t.”
Tyler Polumbus continues to work with the first team at right tackle, with Maurice Hurt and Willie Smith also taking reps at this position.
