Benn will miss the next month. (US Presswire)

Already the Buccaneers are missing left tackle Donald Penn and defensive end Da’Quan Bowers from training camp because nobody in Tampa Bay can seem to stay healthy, and now, you can throw one of the offensive players into that mix.

That’s because, as the Tampa Bay Times writes, receiver Arrelious Benn will miss the next month of training camp after he sprained his right knee in Friday morning’s practice.

On Thursday, the Buccaneers released receiver Dezmon Briscoe, last year’s team touchdown reception leader, because he reported to camp out of shape (he has since been claimed off waivers by the Redskins). In retrospect, perhaps that wasn’t such a great move. Now, Benn -- who’s combined for 55 catches, 836 yards and five touchdowns in his two-year career -- will get a late jump on the season.

Though Benn wasn’t projected as a starter (those spots belong to Vincent Jackson and Mike Williams, for now), he will look for playing time off the bench. But considering the former second-round pick has been a bit of a disappointment in his career, this is to be an important season for him. Which he seems to realize.
