After Melvin Ingram suffered a torn ACL in the offseason, the Chargers signed Dwight Freeney to a two-year deal in order to add some depth to the San Diego pass rush.
On Sunday, though, Freeney reportedly tore his quadriceps muscle, according to NFL.com. The team reportedly hasn’t decided if it’ll place Freeney on the season-ending IR list, but whatever the decision, it’s clear Freeney won’t return anytime soon.
Look for Larry English and Tourek Williams to get more playing time in Freeney’s absence, but he won’t be easy to replace. Entering Sunday’s game, Freeney led the team in quarterback hits and quarterback hurries.
