When IK Enemkpali broke Geno Smith's jaw on Aug. 11, it marked the third time in four years that Enemkpali had thrown a punch in a somewhat public situation.
One of the earlier punches came in a situation where Enemkpali was apparently catfish'd, according to police reports obtained by ESPN's Outside the Lines.
The situation started on Sept. 1, 2011 when Enemkpali started exchanging Facebook messages with a woman named "Missy Lee." After a series of messages, the woman offered to perform oral sex on Enemkpali, so he headed over to her house.
Enemkpali would later tell police that he felt "uneasy" about the situation because the woman wouldn't turn on the lights or take off a blanket she was wearing that covered her entire body.
After taking time to think about it, Enemkpali left the house, but ended up returning later after talking with "Missy Lee" on the phone.
Once Enemkpali was back at the house, he entered the same room as "Missy Lee," but still couldn't see her because the lights were off. At some point, a cell phone rang, and that lit up the room enough for Enemkpali to see that "Missy Lee" had facial hair.
At about the same time, another person entered the room and that's when Enemkpali threw a punch, "fearing for his safety, Enemkpali then struck the subject in the blanket. Enemkpali stated that after he struck this person, their voice changed to that of a male. Enemkpali stated that he then left the residence through the window," according to the police report.
"Missy Lee" would later send Enemkpali several texts asking for money to fix two teeth she had lost after the punch. Enemkpali eventually went to police and reported the incident.
"Missy Lee" turned out to be Ketryn Anderson, a 34-year-old male.
Anderson told police that when he asked Enemkpali for money, "he was not attempting to extort money from Enemkpali, only to get him to pay for the damage he had done to his face."
Police in Louisiana believed that "Anderson was attempting to use Enemkpali's prior criminal history and tenuous status with the Louisiana Tech football team as leverage to force him to pay money."
That prior criminal history involves Enemkpali's first public punch.
The first punch, which happened in April 2011, came after Enemkpali was involved in a fight at a restaurant in Ruston, Louisiana.
At the time, Enemkpali was arrested and charged with battery on a police officer after he hit an off-duty cop who was working security at a local bar. The defensive lineman would later be indefinitely suspended by Louisiana Tech coach Sonny Dykes, who's now the head coach at Cal.
Enemkpali would later be reinstated, but wouldn't be able to play in Louisiana Tech's opener because he injured his hand punching Anderson.
In the end, no one was charged in the catfish incident.
According to ESPN, the incident raised red flags about Enemkpali's decision-making skills and it directly led to at least one AFC team taking him off their draft board.
The Jets ended up drafting Enemkpali in the sixth round of the 2014 NFL Draft and the defensive lineman was with them until being released following the Geno punch.
