The Jets have waived TE Josh Baker and placed him on their Injured Reserve list, his agent tweeted.
Baker took a hard hit to his right knee on Sunday night during the team's third preseason game against the Panthers.
The Jets signed Baker as an undrafted free agent out of Northwest Missouri State in 2011.
The move leaves the Jets with just two veteran tight ends -- Dustin Keller and Jeff Cumberland. Keller pulled a hamstring on Sunday night and Cumberland is recovering from a concussion sustained during a practice. Both are expected to be ready for the regular season opener, but the Jets will likely need to add a third tight end.
Dedrick Epps, who was originally a seventh-round draft pick of the Dolphins in 2010, has performed satisfactorily during training camp so this could be an opportunity for him.
The Jets have three more players to release before the 4 p.m. deadline.
