Since we spent Thursday morning covering the news about the Redskins back-up rookie quarterback, it seems only fair to talk about their starting rookie quarterback. Also, Robert Griffin III decided to take a not-so-veiled shot at comments made by "former quarterbacks" about Mike Shanahan.

Oh, and he also said that playing for Shanny is a "dream come true." Aw.

"I was a fan. Growing up I was a Broncos fan so you see Coach Shanahan and that's the coach of your favorite team," Griffin said, via NFL Network. "So when I met him at the combine and they traded up for me it's kind of like a dream come true to be here and play for him and his offense. The offense I watched John Elway tear up defenses in."

Other quarterbacks haven't had as many kind words for Shanny in the past, and though Griffin didn't specifically name anyone, he did point out that he disagrees with comments made about Shanny by "former quarterbacks."

"What some former quarterbacks have said about him to me isn't true," Griffin said. "He seems like a great guy and he's really looking forward to working with me and putting me in the best situation to succeed and help this team win."

There's a pretty good chance that Griffin's referring to former Redskins quarterback Donovan McNabb. As you'll recall, McNabb said in March that he "was misused" by Shanny and that he didn't think RG3 would be "a good fit" in Washington.
But don't let Griffin batting doe eyes at Shanny fool you into thinking that he's walking around carrying the coach's clipboard -- Griffin sounded incredulous when asked if he was Shanny's favorite player.

"Come on, man. I'm not a teacher's pet. I didn't bring him any apples or anything," Griffin joked. "But I make it a point to see coach every single day and talk to him for at least five or 10 minutes. Because you have to have that kind of relationship with not just your offensive coordinator but your head coach so you guys are on the same page."

Griffin, who said he's got 60 or 70 percent of the playbook down (that wasn't a brag, by the way) is going to have some pretty ridiculous expectations during his first year in Washington. And there's going to be plenty of media coverage surrounding the quarterback.

But on the bright side, at least it's not a training-camp competition between Rex Grossman and John Beck.
