Thanks to a nagging hamstring injury, CB Marcus Trufant hasn't exactly been having a December to remember. The 10-year veteran didn't practice on Wednesday because of  his hamstring and hasn't practiced since suffering the injury on Nov. 29. Trufant hasn't played since the team's Nov. 25 loss to the Dolphins, and he's been inactive for each of the Seahawks' three December games -- wins over Chicago, Arizona and Buffalo. 

A hamstring injury also kept CB Walter Thurmond sidelined on Wednesday. Thurmond missed Sunday's 50-17 win over Buffalo because of the injury. During his weekly press conference on Wednesday, coach Pete Carroll said the team would know more about Thurmond and Trufant's playing status later this week. 

Seattle is already thin in the secondary thanks to the suspension of starting CB Brandon Browner. Browner will be serving the third game of a four-game suspension when the Seahawks play San Francisco on Sunday night. If Seattle makes the playoffs, Browner will be eligible to play in the first postseason game. The team can clinch a playoff berth with a win over the 49ers. 

Four others miss practice: WR Sidney Rice (knee), RB Leon Washington (illness), DT Jason Jones (knee) and DT Alan Branch (ankle) also missed practice on Wednesday. Branch was injured during Sunday's win over Buffalo. If Branch can't go against the 49ers on Sunday, that could mean more playing time for rookie DL Greg Scruggs and DL Clinton McDonald.

McGrath moving up: TE Sean McGrath was promoted from the practice squad to the active roster on Tuesday. McGrath replaces TE Evan Moore, who was released. Carroll talked about McGrath's promotion on Wednesday, saying special teams play was something the team needed from Moore's roster spot. Since Moore doesn't play special teams, the team released him and promoted McGrath. To fill McGrath's spot on the practice squad, the team signed former Fresno State LB Kyle Knox.  

Christmas Carroll: San Francisco coach Jim Harbaugh was asked Wednesday if he sent a Christmas card to Carroll. Harbaugh's response, "No." During Carroll's conference call with San Francisco media, Carroll was asked if he had sent Harbaugh a Christmas card. "I heard that he didn't get one from us, yet. I want to go back and check my list and see how that happened," Carroll said. "But maybe there will be something coming along before too long. If Jim's not sending a card, that's OK. I understand. We'll try and get one in the mail soon.
