Seahawks WR Ben Obomanu's season is over after the team placed him on injured reserve Tuesday. (US Presswire) |
Wide receiver Ben Obomanu has been placed on injured reserve and will miss the rest of the season, the Seahawks announced Tuesday. Obomanu injured his wrist in Seattle's 28-24 loss to Detroit on Sunday.
The Obomanu injury is bad news for a Seattle receiving corps that has struggled to stay healthy this season. Both Doug Baldwin (ankle) and Braylon Edwards (knee) missed the Lions game and coach Pete Carroll said Monday that the team would probably think about making changes to the 53-man roster. "We have to consider it because there's a little bit of uncertainty [at receiver]. We're looking at our options," Carroll said, without specifying what those options were.
If Carroll and the Seahawks are looking to make a trade, they have until 4 p.m. ET on Thursday to do so. The trade deadline was originally scheduled to be 4 p.m. ET on Tuesday, but the NFL pushed it back 48 hours because league offices were closed due to Hurricane Sandy.
As for Obomanu, the injury news couldn't have come at a worse time; Tuesday is the seven-year veteran's 29th birthday. He'll finish the season with four catches for 58 yards, including a three-catch, 50-yard game against the 49ers in Week 7.
With Obomanu out, the Seahawks promoted WR Jermaine Kearse from the practice squad to the active roster. The team also announced the addition of WR Phil Bates to the practice squad. Both Bates and Kearse were signed as undrafted free agents after the 2012 NFL draft. The undrafted free agent route worked for the Seahawks last season, when Baldwin, another UDFA, led the team in receiving yards.
Besides Kearse, T Michael Person was also promoted from the practice squad to the active roster.
CB Gorrer released: The Danny Gorrer era is over in Seattle after only six weeks. The Seahawks signed Gorrer on Sept. 18 and released him Tuesday. Gorrer came to the Seahawks after being cut by Baltimore and has yet to see playing time this season.
