Seahawks vs. Lions: Live updates, score, results, highlights, for Sunday's NFL game
Live scores, highlights and updates from the Seahawks vs. Lions football game
The Seattle Seahawks' homestand continues as they prepare to take on the Detroit Lions at 4:25 p.m. ET Jan. 2 at Lumen Field. Both teams took a loss in their last game, so they'll have plenty of motivation to get the 'W.'
Last week, Seattle and the Chicago Bears were almost perfectly matched up, but the Seahawks suffered an agonizing 25-24 defeat. A silver lining for Seattle was the play of RB Rashaad Penny, who rushed for one TD and 135 yards on 17 carries.
The Seattle defensive unit accumulated four sacks for a loss of 21 yards. The heavy lifting was done by DE Rasheem Green and DE Carlos Dunlap, who each racked up two sacks.
Meanwhile, Detroit was first on the board but had to settle for second at the end of their contest against the Atlanta Falcons last week. Detroit was within a late touchdown of stealing the victory, but they took the "L" against Atlanta 20-16. The game was a 10-10 toss-up at halftime, but the Lions were outplayed the rest of the way. One thing holding Detroit back was the mediocre play of QB Tim Boyle, who did not have his best game: despite one touchdown, he threw one interception with only 187 yards passing. Boyle ended up with a passer rating of 120.60.
Most of the squad's points came courtesy of special teams, which contributed ten. K Riley Patterson delivered a perfect 3-for-3 game.
The Lions are now 2-12-1 while the Seahawks sit at 5-10. Neither squad can make the playoffs, so they're playing for draft order now.
Seattle is the favorite in this one, with an expected 7-point margin of victory. Those playing the odds have seen things go back and forth with Seattle, who are 7-7 against the spread.
Seattle was able to grind out a solid win over Detroit when the teams previously met three seasons ago, winning 28-14. Will the Seahawks repeat their success, or does Detroit have a better game plan this time around? We'll find out soon enough.
