Like every team in the NFL, the Steelers had to have their roster cut from 80 to 53 players by 4 p.m. ET on Aug. 31. But unlike most teams, Pittsburgh was able to get four preseason games of evaluations before making their final roster cuts.
While there weren't many starting spots up for grabs, several position battles did play out over the course of the preseason. One of the most tightly contested position battles was at nickel cornerback, a position that was presumably won by James Pierre. A position battle that gained national attention was the Steelers' backup quarterback situation, as Dwayne Haskins made a strong case to make Pittsburgh's regular-season roster.
Here's a look at the players the Steelers have released. Pittsburgh has 12 days remaining until they kick off the regular season in Buffalo against the Bills.
