The Pittsburgh Steelers are finally at full strength -- officially, anyway.

In addition to WR Mike Wallace ending his holdout and reporting to the team Tuesday, the Steelers took LBs James Harrison and Jason Worilds off PUP.

That leaves no players on that list and no more holdouts. The Steelers don't even have any players on Injured Reserve, although TE David Johnson and LB Mortty Ivy are on the Waived/Injured List and G David DeCastro might end up on IR if his surgery doesn't go well Wednesday.

Harrison's left knee required surgery Aug. 15, and he has yet to practice throughout training camp (as PUP status dictates). He was bothered by a knee and a balky back over the summer and had a broken eye socket that kept him out of four games last season.

Harrison said on Monday that he isn't overly frustrated. "Things happen and you have to deal with them. That's what I'm doing right now."

Harrison said he was "hoping" he could play in the season opener Sept. 9 at Denver and wouldn't rule it out. He will have four practices next week to prepare himself.

So will Worilds, who has a wrist injury.

Now that both players have been removed from PUP, they cannot be placed back on it and they will count toward the 53-man roster that needs finalized by Friday. Any PUP player is eligible to stay on the list through six weeks of the regular season.

Ford driven out: RB Jason Ford was the odd man out when Wallace reported to the team Tuesday. Ford, an undrafted rookie from Illinois, was released Tuesday. Ford was signed Aug. 14 and had 42 rushing yards on eight carries in the two preseason games since.

The Steelers signed RB DuJuan Harris on Monday in what was perhaps a sign of things to come for Ford once Wallace arrived.

Out Thursday: Coach Mike Tomlin, as can be expected, said the Steelers will "err on the side of caution" when it comes to playing banged-up players in the preseason finale Thursday against Carolina. To that end, don't expect to see any of those who did not practice Tuesday to make it onto the Heinz Field turf Thursday.

WR Jerricho Cotchery (back), G David DeCastro (knee), DE Brett Keisel (ankle), RB Isaac Redman (ankle) and LB Steveson Sylvester (knee) did not practice Tuesday.

Tomlin said final decisions had yet to have been made regarding the status of some veterans for Thursday's game.

"Some of those guys who are nicked up and dealing with stuff, obviously, we'll err on the side of caution," Tomlin said. "But that doesn't preclude us from taking precautionary measures with some other, more-established guys."

Plenty of Batch: It's possible -- though not assured -- that QB Charlie Batch, a hometown favorite, will be making his final appearance in a Steelers uniform Thursday.

At least it will be a long one.

Tomlin wouldn't say what the quarterback playing-time rotation will be other than: "I know that Charlie is going to play a bunch."

Considering the Steelers have so many prominent players who might not be ready for the opener but who will need to be on the 53-man roster (G David DeCastro, RB Rashard Mendenhall, LB James Harrison), the team might want to bolster depth at some of those positions at the expense of the luxury of carrying three quarterbacks.

Batch, a 37-year-old native of nearby Homestead, does extensive charity work in the area and is unlikely to seek -- or be offered -- work elsewhere in the league. If something were to happen to either QB Ben Roethlisberger or QB Byron Leftwich during the season, one school of thought goes, the Steelers could easily ring Batch and bring him back.

Other notes: Tomlin said NT Casey Hampton "has represented himself well" since coming off PUP (knee and elbow injuries) and might play Thursday. ... RB Jonathan Dwyer will start against the Panthers. ... Although Redman has been quite injury-prone throughout camp with groin and, now, ankle injuries, Tomlin said the latest ailment doesn't appear to be serious. "It's not something that is going to keep him out of action in Denver," Tomlin said. Redman is the Steelers' defacto starter with Mendenhall still recovering from January ACL surgery.
