Wide receiver Terrell Owens will make his Seattle Seahawks debut in Denver Saturday, coach Pete Carroll announced Thursday. Carroll said that Owens will see playing time early in the game.
"I'm not going to tell you how many plays it will be. We'll see how it goes," Carroll said.
Owens hasn't played in an NFL game -- preseason or otherwise -- since December 2010 when he was a member of the Cincinnati Bengals. Carroll is confident that 38-year-old Owens is ready to see game action. "He's ready to go. He had two good weeks of work and came in in great shape. So he's ready to go," Carroll said.
Owens has been with the Seahawks since signing Aug. 6. The Seattle coaching staff was impressed with the 15-year veteran after watching him go through a workout, which included a 4.45-second 40 time.
Owens won't be the only high-profile player on the field Saturday who sat out the 2011 season. Broncos QB Peyton Manning will be making his home debut against the Seahawks. The combination of Manning and Owens on the field Saturday in a preseason game should have Denver-area ticket brokers drooling.
Seahawks sign a center: Seattle added some much needed depth to the center position by signing Kris O'Dowd Thursday. O'Dowd is a product of USC where he played under current Seahawks assistant offensive line coach Pat Ruel. The Seahawks depth at center has taken a hit in the past week with injuries to John Moffitt (elbow) and Lemuel Jeannpierre (groin). Kicker Carson Wiggs was cut to make room on the roster for O'Dowd.
Head games: TE Zach Miller, who suffered a concussion against Tennessee in the Seahawks preseason opener, will not play against Denver, Carroll said. Linebacker Mike Morgan, who's also feeling the ill-effects of a concussion, won't play against the Broncos either.
