The Texans will play their fourth and final preseason game on Thursday when they host Minnesota. Here are three players to keep an eye on as they prepare to make their final cuts:
- QB Case Keenum: QB John Beck will start and play the first half against Minnesota. Keenum, an undrafted rookie out of Houston, will play the third and fourth quarters. Both are competing for the No. 3 quarterback spot behind Matt Schaub and T.J Yates. “Two totally different guys,” Kubiak told reporters this week. “I’m talking about a veteran that’s had some experience, some starting time. So, do we go that direction or do we go with the young man that looks like he’s got a bright future ahead of him?”
- RB Jonathan Grimes: Grimes is an undrafted rookie out of William & Mary. Right now, he's behind Arian Foster, Ben Tate and Justin Forsett. However, he has impressed coaches throughout the preseason, both running the ball and on special teams. He has 15 carries for 81 yards and a touchdown in the first three preseason games. He will get a lot of work against the Vikings and will hope to impress the coaches enough to earn a roster spot.
- WR DeVier Posey: Posey will still make the team, but he doesn't have a catch in preseason. He has also been slowed by a calf injury, which has contributed to him falling behind Lestar Jean and fellow rookie Keshawn Martin in the battle for the No. 3 wide receiver spot. Posey can get some good work in on Thursday. “He‘s going to play a great deal,” Kubiak said. “He needs to catch up.”
