Houston had the NFL stage to itself on Monday night in New York, and while the Texans always seemed in control, they didn’t rack up many style points in their 23-17 win over the Jets. The win also could prove costly as LB Brian Cushing had to leave the game in the second quarter with a left knee injury. There are numerous reports that he could be lost for the season with an ACL tear.

Offense: B

The Texans got their running game going Monday night. RB Arian Foster had a big day, rushing for 152 yards and a touchdown on 29 carries. QB Matt Schaub was solid, throwing for 209 yards and a touchdown. He had success hitting his tight ends, especially off of play action. Schaub did throw his second interception of the season and completed only 50 percent of his passes.

Defense: B+

Houston’s defense allowed just 10 of New York’s 17 points, and the Texans once again came up with big plays, forcing two turnovers and registering three sacks. The biggest play may have come at the end of the first half when CB Brice McCain intercepted Jets QB Mark Sanchez off a deflection by DE J.J. Watt. McCain returned the interception 86 yards. Instead of the Jets getting a field goal or touchdown, Houston closed the half with a field goal of its own.

Special teams: C

The kicking game was good. K Shayne Graham made all three of his field-goal attempts, and P Donnie Jones had four of his six punts end up inside New York’s 20-yard line. However, the return game was brutal. The Texans allowed Jets RB Joe McKnight to return a kickoff 100 yards for a touchdown, and WR Trindon Holliday averaged a mere 11 yards per kickoff return on three attempts.

Coaching: B

This game seemed like a no-brainer in Houston's favor on paper, especially considering the Jets were coming off a 34-0 home loss to San Francisco last week. While Monday’s game may not have been pretty, the Texans came away with a win, and they return home for a telling two-game stretch when the Packers and Ravens come to Reliant Stadium in the next couple of weeks.
