The Texans opened training camp Saturday morning amid plenty of excitement within the organization and throughout the city. Last year, Houston got the playoff monkey off its back, but this year there are higher expectations. With those heightened expectations comes more pressure. “I think the pressure is something we’ve been waiting for and the city has been waiting for,” center Chris Myers told media Friday. “This organization has been trying to get that type of pressure on us. It’s not just try to win a division and get to the playoffs. It’s Super Bowl or bust.”
Who’s here: Quarterback Matt Schaub (foot) and wide receiver Andre Johnson (knee) were back on the field after missing OTAs. Schaub and Johnson had been working out together at the University of Houston leading up to training camp. “I think we both would say that we look like ourselves, me throwing to him and him running his routes,” Schaub said Friday. “It’s like we have the last five, six years.”
Who’s not: Inside linebacker Darryl Sharpton was in uniform but did not practice Saturday morning, according to Nick Scurfield. Sharpton is still recovering from a torn right quadriceps that forced him to miss the second half of last season. Once back, he’s expected to compete with newly acquired Bradie James to fill a starting spot left open when the team traded DeMeco Ryans.
