The parameters set forth in Monday's joint practice between the Tennessee Titans and Atlanta Falcons placed each defense at a disadvantage.
Pass rushers weren't allowed to contact the QBs, the Ss had to back off on plays down the middle and the LBs weren't allowed to wrap-up on RBs. Still, the Titans defense can't be pleased with the performance.
Falcons QB Matt Ryan spread the ball around to a number of receivers and threw in rhythm for the majority of the session. Ryan hardly had an incompletion during the two-and-a-half hour practice.
“Ryan was really on and he was throwing a lot of great balls,” cornerback Alterraun Verner told The Tennessean.
The Titans will face a Seahawks' offense on Saturday that added QB Matt Flynn, WR Braylon Edwards and TE Kellen Winslow Jr. in the offseason. Seahawks coach Pete Carroll said on Tuesday that newly signed WR Terrell Owens won't play in the preseason opener.
Egboh excited about first-team reps: The absence of two key DEs at several points early in camp has provided an opening for DE Pannel Egboh.
The third-year DE from Stanford received extensive reps with the first-team in the Titans' last two practices. Egboh appeared at left DE with the first-team in Sunday's practice when DE Derrick Morgan was held out with soreness in his knee. Morgan returned Monday, but Egboh still received a good amount of time with the first-team.
“It's pretty encouraging, it's definitely giving me a feeling what it's like to be a starter in the NFL,” Egboh said. “I guess in camp when you're with the first-team it's a little faster and guys are bringing it a little harder.”
Egboh (6-6, 287) has been working with defensive assistant/pass rush specialist Keith Millard on a club/swim counter move.
“If your first move doesn't work it's nice to have something to fall back on,” Egboh said. “Whenever you're facing somebody you have to know their weaknesses, you always have to have a plan. There's some situations where you can just go out there and beat someone but a lot of times you have to have a plan and stick to it.”
