Kendall Wright’s injury status for the remainder of the season has yet to be determined after the Tennessee Titans’ rookie wide receiver possibly suffered a cracked rib in Monday night’s 14-10 win over the Jets.
Titans coach Mike Munchak said that Wright underwent tests on Tuesday, but that it’s too early to tell whether he’ll play Sunday against the Packers. Wright, the No. 20 overall pick in the 2012 NFL Draft, ranks first among rookie receivers in receptions with 62.
Wright’s pain tolerance will likely be the biggest factor on whether he continues to play. If Wright is unable to pick his hands up to make a catch without experiencing pain he may be forced out of the lineup.

“It’s about deciding about how much you can protect him,” Munchak said. “There’s a good chance he’s going to get hit quite a bit.”
The injury occurred early in the fourth quarter when Wright lunged for a Jake Locker pass down the left sideline in double coverage. Wright’s said after the game that he hit one of his ribs on Jets CB Antonio Cromartie’s hip.
“It hurt a lot, on a scale of 1 to 10 it was an 8,” Wright said. “It wasn’t tough to breathe, it just hurt. When I landed my feet never hit the ground, I just landed right on it.”
Wright attempted to return to the game later in the quarter, but turned back to the sidelines when he experienced pain while running.
“They taped it up and I put a rib protector on it,” Wright said. “When I tried to jog I knew it was cracked.”
Wright leads the Titans in receptions but is seventh in yards per catch (9.5). Bucs WR Vincent Jackson, who’s tied with Wright in catches, is averaging 19.8 yards per reception.
“He’s going to be a big part of this offense for a long time to come,” Munchak said. “We felt like he contributed from day one. I think he’ll be fun to watch going forward, hopefully he won’t be done.”
C Matthews likely headed to IR: OL Kevin Matthews suffered a high-ankle sprain in the victory and is probably out for the season, Munchak said. Matthews, a swing lineman, started the Titans last two games at center.
Munchak has yet to decide if Fernando Velasco or Kyle DeVan will start at center at Green Bay. If Matthews is placed on IR, he will be the fifth Titans’ starting offensive lineman to suffer a season-ending injury this season.
Munchak is optimistic that LB Colin McCarthy will be active vs. the Packers. McCarthy has yet to be cleared since suffering a concussion vs. the Jaguars on Nov. 25.
