Titans vs. Broncos score: Nick Westbrook-Ikhine's huge day powers Tennessee past Denver
Tennessee got back into the win column Sunday with a strong showing from NWI and the defense
NASHVILLE, Tenn. -- Who said the Tennessee Titans were lacking in the wide receiver department? On Sunday, Titans wideout Nick Westbrook-Ikhine caught five passes for 119 yards and two touchdowns, and helped power the Titans to a 17-10 win over the Denver Broncos.
Ryan Tannehill completed 19 of 36 passes for 255 yards and two touchdowns, while Derrick Henry was held in check with just 53 rushing yards on 19 carries. Russell Wilson completed 21 of 42 passes for 286 yards, one touchdown and one interception, but he was sacked six times and was under pressure on virtually every drop back. Tennessee's defense recorded a whopping 18 QB hits. Wilson's one touchdown pass was caught by Jalen Virgil -- a 66-yard bomb in the second quarter that marked the first career catch for the undrafted rookie out of App State.
The Broncos offense went flat in the second half, recording just 106 yards in the final two quarters. Wilson did get the Broncos to the Tennessee 21-yard line with just seconds remaining in the game, but the Titans defense stood tall and picked off Wilson in the end zone.
With this win, the 6-3 Titans solidified their hold on the AFC South, while the Broncos fall to 3-6. The Broncos return to Denver next week, and will host the rival Las Vegas Raiders. As for the Titans, they are on a short week in Week 11, as they will travel to Green Bay to take on Aaron Rodgers and the Packers.
The officials say that the ball was actually recovered by Bailey, so this one is not over yet!
Strip sack! Titans recover! That will do it!
The Broncos have something here. 54 yards on seven plays. Now at the 21-yard line with 38 seconds left.
Chig Okonkwo catches a 42-yard dart on third down! Versatile weapon that fans want to see more of. Titans now in the red zone with four minutes remaining.
I believe the Broncos have 56 yards of total offense in the second half...... It's just unbelievably hard to watch.
It appears Derrick Henry is in the blue medical tent.
The Titans (for some reason) put Malik Willis in the game, and he fumbles on a read option. What in the world!
ANOTHER sack. Wilson is definitely holding onto the ball for a long time, but I don't think there's much open downfield either.
Russell Wilson sacked for the third time today. This time he loses 9 yards. After the pass to Melvin Gordon, Denver has a 3rd and 10.
Titans go three-and-out. Feels like they have all the momentum at this point but it's just a four-point game. Russell Wilson needs more help from his offensive line so he can get time to look downfield.
Near disaster for the Titans. Tannehill throws a dart to the wrong team, but Kareem Jackson can't reel it in.
Pretty bold decision for Hackett to go for it on fourth and 1 from their own 40-yard line. Russell Wilson converts on the sneak. Some momentum for a Broncos team that desperately needs it.
It appears the Broncos have made the switch over to Chase Edmonds. Can't argue with that.
63-yard flea flicker! Titans score the first points of the second half! Nick Westbrook-Ikhine had Broncos defenders falling all over themselves. Westbrook-Ikhine now has five catches for 119 yards and two touchdowns. Career day for him.
Not sure I can remember a more boring start to a second half. Three punts in a row. Offense has gone flat again -- for both teams.
Melvin Gordon fumbles out of bounds after a 11-yard pickup. Seems like Broncos fans are fed up with him. Had a bad drop today, an almost-fumble and then that fumble out of bounds. Really does seem like he has a fumbling issue.
HALFTIME IN NASHVILLE:
First downs: DEN 10 TEN 9
Total yards: DEN 207 TEN 116
3rd downs: DEN 4-9 TEN 3-9
Russell Wilson: 11/22 188 yards 1 TD
Ryan Tannehill: 12/25 100 yards, 1 TD
Derrick Henry 8 carries for 16 yards
Latavius Murray: 8 carries for 24 yards
Nick Wesbrook-Ikhine: 4 catches 56 yards 1 TD
Pretty play from an offense that hasn't been very pretty today. Titans get on the board just before halftime. We got a ballgame!
Third and goal from the nine-yard line. Not the spot Tennessee wanted to be in.
Ryan Tannehill is now limping around after an impressive run. I can guarantee you he's not 100 percent healthy. But first and goal for the Titans.
This is the most successful drive the Titans have had all afternoon. 50 yards on nine plays. Actually catching some passes and moving the chains! Tennessee now just five yards from the red zone. 29 seconds remaining.
Titans announce Lonnie Johnson is OUT for the game with a hamstring injury.
While the Broncos' offense hasn't been anything to brag about today, they now have 10 points on the board. Brandon McManus hits the 39-yard field goal. 2:23 left in the first half, Tannehill and Co. have to get something going here.
The past few minutes have turned into a flag and injury fest.
