The Vikings have placed RB Adrian Peterson on the active PUP (physically unable to perform) list during training camp. Coach Leslie Frazier made the announcement following the morning walk-through during which Peterson was on the sideline, not participating in the drills.

"[With] Adrian, we’re going to go ahead and put him on the active PUP,” Frazier said. “We think that’s the best thing to do for right now. We’ll continue to evaluate him daily and see how he’s progressing. At some point the doctors and Eric Sugarman, our head trainer, will come to me and say, ‘Hey, we think he’s ready to get involved in some of the team activities.’ At this point, we’re going to go through some of the evaluation and make a determination as to when is the right time to put him out there with his teammates.”

Frazier met with Peterson on Monday evening and discussed the situation. He said Peterson fought the decision.

“He put up a fight,” said Frazier. “Knowing Adrian like you guys do, he wanted to make sure. He said, ‘Coach, don’t hold me back.’ He wanted to get out there, but we’ve got to be smart. We need to see him do a few things and then make a determination. If he had his way, he’d be getting involved today.”

Peterson is only about eight months removed from surgery to repair the ACL and the MCL in his left knee -- a recovery that is typically much longer. He can be removed from the PUP list at any time during camp and start practicing. Until that time, RB Toby Gerhart will take all the first team reps.
