The Vikings went down to the wire with their final two draft picks, signing CB Josh Robinson one day before he had to report and LT Matt Kalil on reporting day.
The signings were crucial; the team wants to start off their rebuilding efforts with all their rookies (and veterans) onboard.
The speedy Robinson, formerly of Central Florida, is behind veteran CBs Chris Carr and Zack Bowman, but he could push for playing time.
Kalil, the Vikings' first-round pick, is expected to start right away, even though he didn't sign until the evening of the first practice. His mission will be to protect franchise QB Christian Ponder, and he'll get things going in practice on Friday by facing DE Jared Allen, who won the sack title in 2011.
Kalil may already being trying to get on Allen’s good side. “[He’s] a great guy," Kalil said. "The first day he was here, I kind of met him and he gave me some advice. I am just looking forward to getting in pads and going against the best DE in the NFL.”
