DE Jared Allen has accepted responsibility for drawing a personal foul when he hit quarterback Andrew Luck out of bounds during the Vikings’ 23-20 loss to the Colts in Week 2. (US Presswire) |
Vikings DE Jared Allen has softened his stance a bit on the roughing penalty he drew against Colts QB Andrew Luck on Sunday.
He still feels it was the wrong call, but on Thursday, he appeared to be more accepting of his responsibility.
“Like I said, if it’s a running back they wouldn’t have called it,” he said. “But they called it so I have to own that. But you are trying to make plays -- that’s what a football game is. The refs called it a personal foul, so you have to eat that.”
For Allen, however, little has changed regarding how he might address a similar situation in the future.
“It is not going to change the way I play,” he said. “I am going to continue to hustle after guys and try to get them on the ground. It sucks to get the personal foul -- you have to own up that, especially when it cost you a field goal. But I am not going to stop chasing guys out of bounds, and if I feel like I can get a piece of them on the way out, I am going to do it.”
Peterson shows respect: Running back Adrian Peterson is ready to face the 49ers'physical defense.
“These guys are good,” Peterson said. “But we are looking forward to the challenge. I don’t think they have faced a run attack offense like we have, so I can that can switch things up [for them]. But I am looking forward to playing those guys.”
Making Moss memories: Vikings rookie S Harrison Smith watched 49ers WR Randy Moss on television growing up, but on Sunday he will face him on the field.
“Sometimes it’s kind of funny when you look at a roster being a rookie,” Smith said. “There are some guys that you grew up watching play and he’s one of those guys. I remember watching him but now at the end of the day, I am playing against him. He’s a player for me to look at and see what he’s doing and try to figure out his plan. He’s a great player; so once again, it will be a big challenge for the secondary this week.”
My name is Leslie Frazier and I approve of this message: CB Antoine Winfield addressed the team in the locker room on Monday, and while he never revealed what the subject of his speech was [other than it being about football], his coach Leslie Frazier, who was in the room, liked what he heard.
“It’s always good when the veteran guy gives some word of wisdom,” Frazier said. “It helps when veterans guys [speak up], especially with so many young guys on our team that they hear from them what it takes to win in our league. It used to help me when I was player to hear from the veteran guys. So I think it was good.”
Injury report: Other than LB Erin Henderson, who sat out of practice with a concussion, the only Vikings that were limited due to injury were C John Sullivan (ankle) and DE D’Aundre Reed (calf).
