Vikings WR Percy Harvin sprained his ankle in three places last Sunday, so has sat out practice on Wednesday. Coach Leslie Frazier said Harvin was making improvements but is still day-to-day. Frazier also said that NT Letroy Guion sat out practice with turf toe suffered on Sunday. He is hoping to get both back soon.
“We will learn more as the week goes on," Frazier said. "I am hoping by Friday they can both participate to some degree. We will see.”
Frazier said that DL Fred Evans would replace Guion in his absence, and he will rotate some of the other linemen into the game -- but he has not revealed who or what that rotation will be.
As for Harvin, if he is unable to go, rookie WR Jarius Wright would be part of the plan to replace him. Wright has not been active for a regular season game yet as a pro, but Frazier said he thinks the rookie is ready to help the team.
“Yes we think he can, and he will prepare just in case Percy is not able to make it,” Frazier said. “He will be working; he will part of the mix as we game-plan for Detroit.”
Frazier said that TE John Carlson returned to practice after missing two games with a concussion. He was not ready to say how much he would play in the game on Sunday, however.
“Some of it will depend on how he does in practice, coming off a concussion there are some things we need to see as the week goes on,” said Frazier. “But we’re hoping he will be a factor in this game. We need him -- we need all the weapons we can get in a game like this. But we will have to see.”
The struggling passing game could use every bit of help it can get right now.
