Washington Football Team safety Deshazor Everett was involved in a single-car accident on Thursday night that killed a passenger, according to Neal Augenstein of WTOP. The Loudoun County Sheriff's Office said the accident took place at 9:15 p.m., and that 29-year-old Olivia Peters later succumbed to her injuries.
The Sheriff's Office did not reveal Everett's identity, but multiple reports have. The LSCO says the driver of a 2010 Nissan GT-R was traveling north on Gum Spring Road near Ticonderoga Road when the vehicle left the right side of the roadway, struck several trees and rolled over. The cause of the crash remains under investigation.
Washington made a statement saying that it had been made aware about Everett's accident:
"We've been made aware of an automobile accident last night involving Deshazor Everett. A passenger in his vehicle lost their life and we extend our deepest sympathies to the family and friends who lost a loved one. Deshazor is currently in the hospital with serious but non-life-threatening injuries. Our thoughts and prayers are with everyone who has been affected by this tragedy. Our team has alerted the league office and is working with local authorities as we continue to gather more information. We will have no further comment at this time."
Everett went undrafted out of Texas A&M in 2015. He got a chance with the Tampa Bay Buccaneers, but was cut that July and signed with Washington. Everett carved out a role for himself and was named a special teams captain. In 89 career games, he has recorded 170 combined tackles, two forced fumbles and two interceptions.
