After IK Enemkpali punched teammate Geno Smith in the face on Tuesday, the New York Jets responded by cutting Enemkpali almost immediately after the incident took place.
Enemkpali wouldn't have been released if Willie McGinest was running the team though. During a Wednesday appearance on NFL Network, the former Patriots linebacker said that Smith's "not even good" and that he would've kept Enemkpali around.
"It has nothing to do with who's soft or who's not," McGinest said. "If you're a respected player in that locker room and other players respect you at a certain level -- Geno's not a superstar, he's not an elite quarterback, he's not even good at this point."
So how bad does McGinest think Smith is?
The former Patriots linebacker said he would've rewarded Enemkpali for the punch that broke Smith's jaw.
"I would have called (Enemkpali) upstairs to give him a contract extension," McGinest said. "I want guys like that on my team to go to war with."
McGinest isn't the only ex-player who seems to be taking Enemkpali's side. On Tuesday, Hall of Famer Cris Carter basically blamed Smith getting punched on Smith.
"It's a lack of leadership on Geno Smith's part that he would put himself in harms way to get sucker punched," Carter said.
