Nelson was signed to the Colts' practice squad Friday.
Nelson will likely get a shot to be the Colts' long snapper Sunday against the Raiders with the team's current option at the position, Luke Rhodes, entering COVID protocols Friday. Nelson spent time with the Cardinals' practice squad this season but ended up on IR with an undisclosed injury and was ultimately cut.

Kyle Nelson: Cut from practice squad
Nelson (undisclosed) was cut from the Cardinals' practice squad Tuesday, Aaron Wilson of Sportstalk 790 Houston reports.
Nelson had been on the practice squad injured list since Nov. 13. He was originally brought in to replace long snapper Aaron Brewer (arm), but Nelson picked up an injury of his own during practice. The 35-year-old veteran will now try to extend his career elsewhere.

Nelson agreed to terms on a four-year contract extension with the 49ers on Tuesday, Field Yates of ESPN reports.
Nelson was set to become an unrestricted free agent March 13 but worked out a long-term deal with the 49ers just ahead of the deadline to do so. The 32-year-old will serve the final six games of a 10-game suspension for violating the NFL's performance-enhancing substance policy to begin the 2019 season, but will be eligible to participate in all offseason and preseason practices.
