Ayers has been suspended for the first four weeks of the 2018 season, Field Yates of ESPN reports.
Ayers is currently an unrestricted free agent after finishing the 2017 season with the Giants. It's unclear exactly what his suspension is for, but his absence for the first month of the season may make it more difficult for him to catch on with a team for the start of the 2018 campaign.

Giants' Akeem Ayers: Signing with Giants
Ayers signed with the Giants on Tuesday, Michael Eisen of the Giants' official site reports.
The Giants continue to revamp their linebacking corps as Ayers is the third addition in the past two weeks. The veteran linebacker most recently played with the Colts last season, recording 21 tackles and two sacks across 16 games. Ayers could play a sizeable defensive role with his new team right out of the gate given the long list of injuries with which the Giants are currently dealing.
