Hughes played for the Saints in 2017, appearing in eight games and recording 10 tackles prior to tearing his biceps and being placed on IR. Now healthy, Hughes will look to earn a backup role along the Bills' defensive line, competing against Harrison Phillips and Adolphus Washington.

The Saints placed Hughes (biceps) on injured reserve Wednesday, Josh Katzenstein of The New Orleans Times-Picayune reports.
Hughes exited Sunday's victory over the Falcons with what was first believed to be an elbow injury. However, further testing revealed a much worse diagnosis, with the defensive tackle sustaining a torn biceps. Hughes will end the 2017 campaign with 10 tackles over eight appearances. The Saints signed veteran Tony McDaniel to take Hughes' spot on the roster.

Hughes suffered an elbow injury during Sunday's game against the Falcons and is questionable to return, Josh Katzenstein of The New Orleans Times-Picayune reports.
Hughes functions primarily as a reserve defensive lineman so his absence shouldn't alter the New Orleans game plan too much moving forward. In the meantime, look for David Onyemata to fill in where needed.

Hughes had previously attended training camp with the Saints but was part of the wave of final cuts. Following the placement of offensive lineman Zach Strief (knee) on injured reserve Tuesday, a roster spot opened up for Hughes, who will likely serve as the backup to nose tackle Tyeler Davison. The 29-year-old has made 58 career appearances in the NFL with the Browns and Buccaneers, logging 115 tackles and 5.5 sacks during that time.
