Hayes (knee) was placed on injured reserve Tuesday, Cameron Wolfe of ESPN.com reports.
Hayes tore his ACL on Sunday against the Raiders, effectively ending his season. The 33-year-old had accumulated two sacks on the year and was proving to be an important part of Miami's defense. Charles Harris is expected to replace Hayes on the defensive line.

Hayes' injury is unfortunate, as he had posted two sacks in as many weeks and looked to be putting together a promising season. He'll figure to move to injured reserve in the near future. Look for Charles Harris to see some extra reps as a primary backup at defensive end now that Hayes is out.

Hayes signed a one-year contract extension with the Dolphins on Wednesday, Mike Garafolo of the NFL Network reports.
Hayes is entering his 11th year in the league, with the 2017 season being his first in Miami. The 2008 fourth-rounder only racked up 19 tackles and one sack in 12 games, however, before landing on injured reserve with a hamstring injury. Fortunately, Joe Schad of the Palm Beach Post reports that Hayes has since recovered and should be "ready to roll" for the offseason.
