Harkey was released by the Rams on Saturday, Jamie Han of the Rams' official site reports.
Harkey evidently didn't make enough of an impression in the preseason to warrant a roster spot. As a vested veteran, he isn't subject to waivers and is eligible to sign elsewhere immediately.

Rams' Cory Harkey: Catches two passes Saturday
Harkey caught two of three targets for 18 yards during Saturday's preseason win over the Raiders.
Harkey ran with the second-term offense Saturday, but was still on the field for only 19 offensive snaps. With Gerald Everett and Tyler Higbee the clear top two tight ends in the Rams' passing attack, Harkey looks like a long shot to garner fantasy value in most leagues this season. The 27-year-old will likely crack the roster and continue being utilized primarily as a blocker.

Rams' Cory Harkey: Rids self of NFI label
Harkey (triceps) was removed from the non-football injury list Saturday, Rich Hammond of the Orange County Register reports.
Although he ended last season on IR due to a triceps injury, Harkey didn't actually log one snap in 2016. Now healthy, expect him to contend with Temarrick Hemingway for the third spot on the tight end depth chart in training camp.

Harkey injured his triceps working in practice on Friday and was unable to play in Week 14. His absence will likely open up work for Temarrick Hemingway at tight end.
