49ers' Weston Richburg: Retirement confirmed
Coach Kyle Shanahan confirmed Tuesday that Richburg (hip) is retiring from the NFL, Cam Inman of The San Jose Mercury News reports.
The 29-year-old sat out the 2020 campaign due to shoulder and knee injuries, and he also underwent hip surgery this offseason. RIchburg appeared in 79 games (78 starts) over six seasons between the Giants and 49ers.

49ers' Weston Richburg: Leaning toward retirement
Richburg (hip) restructured his contract Saturday, creating close to $7 million in cap space, Ian Rapoport of NFL Network reports.
The report also suggests Richburg's contract restructuring would aid the team in the event the offensive lineman retires, which seems to be a foregone conclusion at this point. Richburg underwent surgery on his kneecap, shoulder and hip all in the past year and a half, likely resulting into the expected early retirement.

Richburg recently had hip surgery.
A left patellar tendon injury along with a shoulder issue caused the center to sit out the entire 2020 campaign. Now Richburg will need to recover from a hip procedure as well. The 29-year-old signed a five-year, $47.5 million deal with the 49ers back in March of 2018 and the report notes that team would save about $4.5 on its salary cap if he's released, as expected.

Richburg was expected to be ready for the 2020 season after sustaining a patellar tear in early December 2019. However, he's endured a few setbacks, and it appears he'll sit out the entire season. The 49ers would save significant cap space by cutting Richburg this offseason.
