49ers' Ben Garland: Officially lands on IR
The 49ers placed Garland (calf) on injured reserve Tuesday.
Garland was the 49ers' interim center while Weston Richburg recovered from kneecap surgery, and now both will be sidelined. Richburg is eligible to return Week 7 against the Patriots, but it's unclear if that will happen. On the other hand, Garland can't return until Week 10 at the earliest. Hroniss Grasu is expected to start at center until one of the two gets healthy.

49ers' Ben Garland: Likely headed to IR
Garland is expected to "be out for a while" after injuring his calf during Sunday's game against the Rams, David Lombardi of The Athletic reports.
Garland departed Sunday's matchup late in the contest, and he'll likely be sidelined for at least the next few contests as a result. San Francisco will be forced to turn to Hroniss Grasu at center until Garland returns to health, per Lombardi.

49ers' Ben Garland: Hurts calf in win
Garland (calf) exited late in Sunday's win over the Rams, Eric Branch of the San Francisco Chronicle reports.
Garland was unable to finish out the contest. Whether the center's able to practice in the coming week will help determine his likelihood of suiting up against the Patriots in Week 7.

49ers' Ben Garland: All clear Wednesday
Garland (ankle) wasn't on the injury report for Wednesday's practice.
Garland was inactive for Week 1 against the Cardinals with the ankle issue but appears on track for a return. Now healthy, Garland is expected to take over as the team's starting center for Week 2 against the Jets.

49ers' Ben Garland: Inactive for Week 1
Garland (ankle) is inactive in Week 1 against the Cardinals, Nick Wagoner of ESPN.com reports.
Garland turned in three limited practices throughout the week, but it won't be enough for him to see game action. Hroniss Grasu is set to step up at center in Garland's absence.

49ers' Ben Garland: Status in question
Garland (ankle) is questionable for the team's Week 1 contest against the Cardinals, Cam Inman of The San Jose Mercury News reports.
Garland suffered the injury during Tuesday's practice and has turned in three limited practices since. That leaves his availability for Sunday in question. If Garland is unable to suit up, both Daniel Brunskill and Tom Compton will take on bigger roles along the offensive line.

49ers' Ben Garland: Suffers injury Tuesday
Garland sat out of the second half of Tuesday's practice due to an ankle injury, Kelana Martin of the 49ers' official site reports.
Garland has been filling in as the first-team center with Weston Richburg (kneecap) on the active/PUP list, so his injury leaves the team in a tough position. There are still no reports on the severity of Garland's injury. Daniel Brunskill can bump to center from his usual guard position for the time being.

Garland agreed Wednesday with the 49ers on a one-year, $2.25 million contract, Ian Rapoport of NFL Network reports.

49ers' Ben Garland: Continuing career in San Francisco
Garland signed a one-year contract with the 49ers on Tuesday.
Garland appeared in 46 games for Atlanta over the past three seasons, starting nine contests. He could compete for a starting role in San Francisco or at worst serve as quality depth along the offensive line.

Falcons' Ben Garland: Done with Atlanta
The Falcons informed Garland this week that they don't intend to re-sign him during the offseason, D. Orlando Ledbetter of The Atlanta Journal-Constitution reports.
Garland has played in 30 games for Atlanta over the past two seasons, starting seven of them. He apparently wasn't deemed to be a fit in new offensive coordinator Dirk Koetter's offensive system, so the 30-year-old looks poised to test his luck elsewhere upon hitting free agency March 13.

Falcons' Ben Garland: Full practice participant Thursday
Garland (back) was a full go for Thursday's practice after being limited during Wednesday's session, Vaughn McClure of ESPN.com reports.
Garland appears on track to be active Sunday against Arizona, but he's been benched in favor of Zane Beadles over the past two weeks due to ineffective play. The offensive line has struggled to open up running lanes all season (81.2 rushing yards per game rank 32nd), with Garland himself being identified by the coaching staff as an unstable option at right guard filling in for the injured Brandon Fusco. He'll likely serve as a backup again in Week 15 when the Falcons face a Cardinals defense that ranks tied for 30th at stopping the run, with 139.5 yards allowed per game on the ground.

Falcons' Ben Garland: In line for starting role
Garland appears to be Atlanta's fill-in option at right guard for the injured Brandon Fusco (ankle) moving forward, D. Orlando Ledbetter of The Atlanta Journal-Constitution reports.
With Fusco heading to the inured reserve due to a broken ankle suffered during a Week 7 win over the Giants, Garland is poised for a half-season audition as a member of Atlanta's starting offensive line. The 30-year-old Air Force alum has appeared in 45 games over the course of his career, logging three starts (all three came last year, filling in for an injured Andy Levitre (triceps)). Garland joins a Falcons offensive line that's performed fairly well in pass protection this season (17th with 20 sacks allowed), but has struggled to pave the way for running backs Tevin Coleman and Ito Smith (averaging just 83.3 yards per game rushing).

Falcons' Ben Garland: Returns to practice Wednesday
Garland (calf) was a limited participant in practice Wednesday, Vaughn McClure of ESPN.com reports.
With the announcement that Andy Levitre (triceps) is down for the remainder of the season, it's encouraging to see Garland working his way back into the fold. The coaching staff wants to get Garland some reps this week in practice, as he is the primary backup option at both right and left guard should either starter -- Brandon Fusco or Wes Schweitzer -- suffer an injury.
