  • Giants' Deonte Banks: Returning to action Week 16

Banks (ribs) is active for Sunday's matchup against the Falcons, Dan Salomone of the Giants' official site reports. Banks missed the Giants' past three contests due to an injury to his ribs, but he was limited in practice all week and will be able to return to game action Sunday. The second-year defender will look to slow down a Falcons passing attack led by rookie Michael Penix, who will make his first NFL start. Banks has been a near every-down player for New York when healthy this season.

  • Giants' Patrick Johnson: Headed to IR

The Giants placed Johnson (knee) on injured reserve Saturday. • Giants' Bobby Okereke: Sent to injured reserve

New York placed Okereke (back) on injured reserve Saturday, Dan Salomone of the Giants' official site reports. Okereke had already been ruled out for Week 16 against the Falcons, and this knocks him out for the remainder of the regular season. The veteran linebacker hadn't played since Week 13, and he'll finish the season with 93 tackles (47 solo), including six TFLs and 2.0 sacks, three pass breakups, three forced fumbles and two fumble recoveries. Sixth-round rookie Darius Muasau should continue to start in Okereke's place the remainder of the year.

  • Giants' Greg Stroman: Won't play Week 16

Stroman (shoulder/shin) was downgraded to out Saturday ahead of Sunday's matchup versus the Falcons, Pat Leonard of the New York Daily News reports. Stroman had previously been deemed doubtful for the contest after not practicing all week, but he's now been ruled out and won't travel with the team to Atlanta. Injuries to his teammates had pushed Stroman up the depth chart in recent weeks, and he logged a season-high 92 percent of New York's defensive snaps last Sunday in a start against Baltimore. The Giants' secondary is getting Cor'Dale Flott back Sunday, and Deonte Banks (ribs) could also return, softening the impact of Stroman's absence.

  • Giants' Patrick Johnson: Missing Week 16

Johnson (knee) has been ruled out ahead of Sunday's matchup against the Falcons, Adam Caplan of SiriusXM NFL Radio reports. Johnson's absence in Week 16 comes as no surprise, as the Tulane product was unable to practice all week due to a knee injury. Tomon Fox could see increased snaps as one of the Giants' key special-teamers with Johnson sidelined Sunday.

Burns has started all 14 games this season, recording 58 tackles (34 solo), including 8.0 sacks, eight defensed passes and two forced fumbles. Burns' eight defensed passes are a new career high, and he needs 4.5 more sacks to match his single-season best of 12.5 from 2022.

  • Giants' Brian Burns: Not practicing, expected to play

Giants head coach Brian Daboll said Thursday that Burns (ankle) will not practice but is expected to be available for Sunday's road matchup against the Falcons, Jordan Raanan of ESPN.com reports. Burns is considered day-to-day, but it sounds like the standout pass rusher's ankle injury is something he'll be able to play through versus Atlanta and rookie quarterback Michael Penix, who will be drawing his first start. His final chance to practice prior to Week 16 action will come Friday.

  • Giants' Rakeem Nunez-Roches: Practices in limited fashion

Nunez-Roches (neck/shoulder) was a limited participant in Wednesday's practice, Patricia Traina of SI.com reports. Wednesday's limited practice session suggests Nunez-Roches could be in line to return for the Giants' Week 16 matchup against the Falcons after he missed the team's previous two games due to neck and shoulder injuries. However, his participation Thursday and Friday will likely provide the best indication of whether he can play Sunday. If Nunez-Roches misses his third game in a row, expect Casey Rogers to serve as one of the Giants' top defensive ends.

  • Giants' Dru Phillips: Logs limited session Wednesday

Phillips (shoulder) was a limited participant in Wednesday's practice, Patricia Traina of SI.com reports. Phillips has been sidelined for each of the Giants' last two games due to a shoulder injury, so Wednesday's limited session could be an indication that he's nearing a return to the field. The rookie third-round pick from Kentucky has solidified himself as the Giants' top slot corner, recording 55 total tackles, including 1.0 sacks, and two forced fumbles over 11 appearances this season. However, if he's unable to return for the Week 16 matchup in Atlanta, expect Isaiah Simmons to serve as the Giants' starting slot cornerback.

Belton (knee) was a limited participant in Wednesday's practice, Patricia Traina of SI.com reports. The third-year pro from Iowa tallied a career-best 15 total tackles, including 1.0 sacks, and one pass defended across 59 defensive snaps in the Giants' Week 15 loss Ravens. However, it now appears he sustained a knee injury in the process. • Giants' Cor'Dale Flott: Limited Wednesday

Flott (quadriceps) was a limited participant in Wednesday's practice, Patricia Traina of SI.com reports. The third-year corner from LSU was sidelined for the Giants' Week 15 loss to the Ravens due to a quadriceps injury, so Wednesday's limited session could be a step toward him returning to the field. • Giants' Bobby Okereke: Sidelined for Wednesday

Okereke (back) didn't practice Wednesday, Dan Duggan of The Athletic reports. The second-year Giant has missed New York's last two games due to a back injury likely sustained in a Week 13 loss to the Cowboys, and Wednesday's DNP is an indication that he's still dealing with the issue. Okereke likely needs to upgrade to at least limited practice participation Thursday or Friday in order to suit up Sunday, when the Giants face the Falcons.

  • Giants' Brian Burns: Posts sack in second straight game

Burns finished with two tackles, including 1.0 sacks, in a 35-14 Week 15 loss to Baltimore on Sunday. Burns brought down Lamar Jackson for a 10-yard loss in the first quarter, though Jackson responded with a touchdown pass to Mark Andrews on the next play. The sack was Burns' second in as many contests and brought his total to 8.0 this season. With three games left in the season for New York, Burns has a shot of reaching double-digit sacks for the second time in his six-year career.

  • Giants' Micah McFadden: Notches double-digit stops again

McFadden totaled 11 tackles (seven solo), including 1.0 sacks, in Sunday's 35-14 Week 15 loss to the Ravens. McFadden finished second on New York in tackles behind Dane Belton (15). It was the second straight game in which McFadden tallied exactly 11 tackles, and he's now logged that specific total in four of his past six games. That makes him a viable fantasy asset for managers in IDP leagues.

Among the tackles was a fourth-quarter sack of backup Ravens QB Josh Johnson, which was the second sack of Belton's career. Belton started Sunday as a result of Tyler Nubin being lost for the season due to an ankle injury.
