  • 49ers' Khalil Davis: Works past knee issue

Davis (knee) was not listed on the 49ers' injury report Wednesday. Davis was unable to play in the 49ers' Week 15 loss to the Rams due to a knee injury. However, that no longer appears to be an issue for the veteran defensive tackle as he was a full participant in the 49ers' first official practice of the week. Unless he suffers a setback, Davis should be able to suit up Sunday against the Dolphins.

  • 49ers' Dee Winters: Past neck issue

Winters (neck) was a full participant in Wednesday's practice. Winters tweaked his neck during the 49ers' 12-6 loss to the Rams this past Sunday. The issue wasn't severe enough to limit his practice participation Wednesday, and barring any setbacks, Winters should be able to play against the Dolphins on Sunday.

  • 49ers' Malik Mustapha: Still nursing chest injury

Mustapha (chest) was a limited participant in Wednesday's practice. Mustapha was unable to play against the Rams this past Thursday due to a chest injury. His limited participation in Wednesday's practice indicates that he is progressing through his recovery, and he'll have two more chances to increase his activity ahead of Sunday's game against Miami.

  • 49ers' Ji'Ayir Brown: Past groin injury

Brown (groin) was a full participant in Wednesday's practice. Brown injured his groin during the 49ers' 12-6 loss to the Rams this past Thursday and finished with six tackles (four solo). It doesn't appear to be a lingering issue as he was able to practice without limitations Wednesday. Barring any setbacks, Brown should be good to go against the Dolphins on Sunday.

  • 49ers' Dre Greenlaw: Limited in Wednesday's practice

Greenlaw (Achilles/knee) was listed as a limited practice participant on Wednesday's injury report. Greenlaw made his 2024 regular-season debut this past Thursday against the Rams, playing 30 defensive snaps and logging eight tackles (three solo) in the process. It was his first game since he tore his Achilles during Super Bowll LVIII against the Chiefs in February, and he'll likely have his practice participation and snap count limited over the final three games of the regular season. As long as he's able to practice in at least a limited capacity over the next two days, he should be able to play against Miami on Sunday.

  • 49ers' Nick Bosa: Limited to open week

Bosa (oblique/hip) was a limited participant in Wednesday's practice. Bosa returned from a three-game absence to play in the 49ers' Week 15 loss to the Rams this past Thursday, finishing with four tackles (two solo) while playing 47 defensive snaps. He should be able to play against the Dolphins on Sunday unless he downgrades to a DNP over the next two days.

  • Colts' Ambry Thomas: Claimed by Indianapolis

The Colts claimed Thomas (forearm) off waivers Wednesday, Joel Erickson of IndyStar.com reports. Thomas has been on injured reserve for the entire regular season after he broke his forearm in a preseason game against the Titans in August. He was waived by the 49ers on Tuesday, but he has quickly found a new home with the Colts and will provide depth at linebacker behind Grant Stuard, Zaire Franklin and E.J. Speed (knee).

Thomas (forearm) was released from the 49ers' injured reserve Tuesday. Thomas has spent the entirety of the 2024 season on injured reserve with a broken forearm that he suffered in August. He will continue to focus on recovering from the injury, and, once healthy, the cornerback will shift his focus to finding his next opportunity in the league.

  • 49ers' Ji'Ayir Brown: Solid day despite getting hurt

Brown (groin) recorded six tackles (four solo) during Thursday's 12-6 loss versus the Rams. Brown picked up a groin issue in Week 15, but along the way, he also racked up six-plus tackles for the fourth time this season. If he's at full strength, he should start at safety next to Talanoa Hufanga in Week 16 at Miami.

  • 49ers' Talanoa Hufanga: Tallies eight tackles Thursday

Hufanga recorded eight tackles (two solo) during Thursday's 12-6 loss versus the Rams. Thursday's contest was only Hufanga's fourth appearance of the year, so it was a bit easier for him to manage a season-high tackle total. He also led San Francisco's safeties in snaps, something he'll hope to do again in Week 16 at Miami.

  • 49ers' De'Vondre Campbell: Facing three-game suspension

The 49ers are expected to suspend Campbell for the final three games of the regular season after the linebacker refused to enter Thursday's 12-6 loss to the Rams, Ian Rapoport of NFL Network reports. Campbell had played at least 62 percent of the 49ers' defensive snaps through the team's first 13 games while totaling 79 tackles, but he lost his starting job in Week 15 after Dre Greenlaw was cleared to make his season debut. With Greenlaw's night coming to an early end after he experienced soreness in his surgically repaired Achilles tendon and fellow linebacker Dee Winters (neck) also exiting early, the 49ers called upon Campbell to step in, but the 31-year-old declined to do so. While speaking to the media Friday, head coach Kyle Shanahan said that Campbell would no longer be part of the team due to his actions, but rather than waiving the veteran linebacker and allowing him to find an opportunity elsewhere before the end of the season, the team is instead planning on suspending him. Expect the transaction to be made official within the next couple of days, bringing an end to Campbell's tenure in San Francisco before he becomes a free agent this spring.

  • 49ers' De'Vondre Campbell: Unlikely to play again in 2024

San Francisco head coach Kyle Shanahan said Friday that Campbell -- who refused to enter Thursday's 12-6 loss to the Rams -- isn't expected to play another snap with the 49ers, Nick Wagoner of ESPN.com reports. Campbell's decision not to play when called upon Thursday drew the ire of both the coaching staff and multiple teammates, so his presence in the locker room moving forward would likely be a distraction. The 49ers are still deciding how to best handle the situation, with Wagoner noting that while the most obvious direction would be to cut Campbell, the team could instead opt to suspend him without pay. Wagoner also explains that Campbell first refused to play Thursday after being asked to step in for Dee Winters, who was dealing with a neck injury. Demetrius Flannigan-Fowles instead entered for Winters, and if the latter isn't able to suit up Week 16 against Miami on Dec. 22, Flannigan-Fowles would likely be in line for extended work on defense.

  • 49ers' Dee Winters: Dealing with neck injury

Winters is day-to-day due to a neck issue, Lindsey Pallares of the 49ers' official site reports. Winters appears to have hurt his neck in some manner during Thursday's Week 15 loss to the Rams. He logged six defensive snaps and 12 special-teams snaps in the loss, finishing with one tackle. Winters' nine percent defensive snap share was his lowest of the campaign, though it's not clear if that was due to the neck issue or more related to Dre Greenlaw (Achilles/knee) making his season debut. Winters had originally been deemed questionable to return early in the first quarter Thursday but re-entered the contest before the period ended.

  • 49ers' Fred Warner: Racks up 15 tackles Thursday

Warner finished with 15 tackles (eight solo) with a pass defended in Thursday's 12-6 loss to the Rams. Warner -- who has been playing through a fractured ankle -- looked like his usual self patrolling the middle of San Francisco's defense. The 15 combined tackles set a new high-water mark for the perennial All-Pro through 14 games in 2024. The dominant IDP performance also put Warner above 100 tackles for the seventh time in as many season as a pro.

  • 49ers' Dre Greenlaw: Day-to-day due to soreness

San Francisco head coach Kyle Shanahan said Friday that Greenlaw (Achilles/knee) "checked out good" after making his season debut during Thursday's 12-6 loss to the Rams, and that he's now dealing with soreness and is considered day-to-day, David Lombardi of SFStandard.com reports. Greenlaw played 30 defensive snaps (47 percent) Thursday, his first on-field action since having suffered a torn Achilles during Super Bowl LVIII back in February. Given that context, it's unsurprising to see the veteran linebacker dealing with some amount of soreness after Thursday's loss. The 49ers may take a cautious approach to Greenlaw's health leading up to the team's upcoming Week 16 road matchup against Miami. He made eight tackles (three solo) versus Los Angeles.

  • 49ers' Ji'Ayir Brown: Viewed as day-to-day

Brown (groin) is considered day-to-day after being injured in Thursday night's loss to the Rams, Lindsey Pallares of the 49ers' official site reports. Brown gets an extended break ahead of the 49ers' Week 16 game against the Dolphins, so his practice participation level will be monitored next week. Tashaun Gipson replaced Brown against Los Angeles and would be in line for an increased role if Brown is unable to play next week.

  • 49ers' Dre Greenlaw: Dealing with leg tightness

Greenlaw did not play for most of the second half of Thursday's 12-6 loss to the Rams due to Achilles and knee tightness, Cam Inman of The San Jose Mercury News reports. Greenlaw was making his season debut after recovering from a torn Achilles, so the nature of the injury is a concern. However, the team reported that he did not suffer another tear, instead saying that he was suffering primarily from fatigue and tightness in both his Achilles and knee.

  • 49ers' De'Vondre Campbell: Future uncertain in SF

Campbell refused to enter the game in Thursday's 12-6 loss to the Rams, Matt Barrows of The Athletic reports. Campbell reportedly said that he didn't want to play during the third quarter and did not retake the field for the rest of the game. Coach Kyle Shanahan was non-committal after the contest regarding Campbell's future with the team, though a one-game suspension -- if not something more severe -- seems possible.

  • 49ers' Ji'Ayir Brown: Questionable to return Thursday

Brown (groin) is questionable to return to Thursday's game against the Rams, Cam Inman of The San Jose Mercury News reports. The safety made five tackles (three solo) before exiting. Brown has 68 tackles (43 solo) and five pass breakups, including an interception, on the year. Tashaun Gipson is in for him, per Inman.

  • 49ers' Dre Greenlaw: Season debut on tap Thursday

Greenlaw (Achilles) is active for Thursday Night Football against the Rams, Lindsey Pallares of the 49ers' official site reports. The linebacker was activated from the reserve/PUP list earlier in the day Thursday after putting in a full practice Wednesday. Greenlaw topped the 100-tackle mark in each of the last two campaigns before tearing his left Achilles while running back onto the field during Super Bowl LVIII back in February. The injury was serious enough to keep him out until the middle of December, so it's unclear how much Greenlaw will play Thursday.
