  • Cardinals' Derrick Coleman: Signs one-year contract with Arizona

Coleman signed a one-year contract with the Cardinals on Wednesday, Adam Schefter of ESPN reports.

Coleman spent the 2017 campaign with the Falcons, recording two carries for eight yards and a pair of receptions for 20 yards. More importantly, he suited up in all 16 games and was an asset as a blocker, so Arizona brought him aboard with the hope that he would provide similar reliability on those fronts. The expectation is that Coleman will operate as the team's starting fullback right away ahead of other potential options like Elijhaa Penny and undrafted rookie Austin Ramesh.

  • Derrick Coleman: Drawing interest from Jets

Coleman participated in a workout with the Jets on Monday, Field Yates of ESPN reports.

Coleman played in all 16 games for Atlanta in 2017 after spending his first four pro seasons within the Seahawks organization. The free-agent fullback averaged just over 14 offensive snaps per game last year, serving almost exclusively as a blocker. The 27-year-old Coleman accumulated eight yards on two carries in his stint with the Falcons, adding two receptions for 20 yards.

  • Falcons' Derrick Coleman: Heading to Atlanta

Coleman signed a contract with the Falcons on Tuesday, Curtis Jackson of the team's official site reports.

Coleman last played for the Seahawks in 2015. Legal troubles prevented him from taking the field last season. He joins the Falcons alongside fullback Soma Vainuku, as the two will compete for a starting gig with the reigning NFC champions. In 31 games (seven starts) over three seasons with the Seahawks, Coleman recorded 11 receptions for 91 yards with two receiving touchdowns. He also rushed the ball 10 times for 35 yards.

  • Seahawks' Derrick Coleman: Could be involved in committee

Seahawks head coach Pete Carroll said he will ride the hot hand between Coleman, Bryce Brown and Christine Michael in Sunday's game against the Browns, the Seahawks' official website reports.

With Fred Jackson locked in as the passing-down back, the Seahawks have three options to share the early-down workload. Carroll's comments perhaps offer some hope that Coleman could actually have a significant role, but the fullback is still the least promising option among the bunch. Carroll hasn't named a starter.

  • Seahawks' Derrick Coleman: Could be in the mix for RB duty

Coleman, who played tailback at UCLA, could be in the mix for running back carries with Thomas Rawls out for the season, the Seattle Times reports.

DuJuan Harris got most of the work after Rawls was injured Sunday against the Ravens. Normally a fullback, Coleman broke a 19-yard run in his lone carry Sunday. The Seahawks also signed Bryce Brown on Monday to compete for carries. Harris and Brown figure to get most of the work. Coleman's at least a great story as the only deaf offensive player in NFL history.
