Giants' Vernon Butler: Moved to IR
Butler (undisclosed) was reinstated from the reserve/did not report list and placed on injured reserve by the Giants on Saturday, Dan Salomone of the team's official site reports.
Butler did not report to the start of the Giants' training camp Tuesday. While the reasons for his absence were not revealed, the 29-year-old is apparently dealing with an undisclosed injury significant enough to land him on IR at this early point in the preseason. Barring an injury settlement with the team, Butler will now be forced to miss the entirety of the 2023 season.

The Giants placed Butler (undisclosed) on the reserve/did not report list Tuesday, Tom Pelissero of NFL Network reports.
Butler isn't with the team to start training camp, but he can be activated off the list at any time. The veteran defensive tackle spent most of 2022 on the Giants' practice squad and appeared in one regular-season game, totaling four tackles (two solo) across 11 defensive snaps.

Vernon Butler: Joins Giants' practice squad
The Giants signed Butler to their practice squad Tuesday, Art Stapleton of The Bergen Record reports.
Butler is now in line to serve as added depth for New York's defensive line following Tuesday's transaction. The 28-year-old was drafted by the Panthers in the first round in 2016 but has yet to play a snap on an active roster this season. In 2021, Butler amassed 11 tackles across 11 games played for Buffalo.

Butler was released by the Raiders on Tuesday, Field Yates of ESPN reports.
Butler signed a one-year contract with Las Vegas in March after spending the previous two seasons in Buffalo. The 28-year-old began camp on the active/non-football injury list, but passed a physical July 26 and began practicing with the team. Butler will now work to earn an opportunity elsewhere.

Butler has fully cleared the league's COVID protocols and can immediately return to practice.
