Jonathan Williams: Back to practice squad
Williams (concussion) reverted to the Commanders' practice squad Monday.
Williams operated behind Antonio Gibson in Sunday's loss to the Rams with Brian Robinson (hamstring) unavailable. The running back lost two yards on his only carry while failing to reel in a target over 13 offensive snaps before exiting with a concussion. Depending how quickly he's able to clear protocols, he could be an option for an elevation in Week 16 against the Jets.

Commanders' Jonathan Williams: Gets elevated for Thursday
The Commanders elevated Williams from their practice squad for Thursday's game at Dallas.
With Antonio Gibson (toe) banged up, Washington saw fit to call up Williams to provide some depth at running back in Week 12. It will be his first game this season, and as long as Brian Robinson is upright, Williams' path to playing time is narrow.

Commanders' Jonathan Williams: Working as No. 3 back
Williams opened the offseason program working as Washington's No. 3 running back, Zach Selby of the team's official site reports.
Williams has a real shot to keep the role heading into Week 1, but it wouldn't necessarily make him third in line for touches on offense. He's an experienced special teamer, which means the 29-year-old might technically be active over fellow RBs Chris Rodriguez and Jaret Patterson on gamedays even if one or both of the young backs is ahead of Williams in the pecking order for carries. All are behind Brian Robinson and Antonio Gibson, the returning top two in a Washington backfield that could be reevaluated under new offensive coordinator Eric Bieniemy.

Commanders' Jonathan Williams: Signed through 2023
The Commanders signed Williams to a one-year contract extension Friday, Ben Standig of The Athletic reports.
Williams appeared in a career-high 13 games in 2022, his second season with Washington, and compiled 44 touches for 192 yards but failed to find the end zone. With Antonio Gibson (foot) and Brian Robinson (knee) out to end the year, Williams totaled 23 rushing attempts for 62 yards across 61 offensive snaps in Weeks 17 and 18. With Gibson and Robinson both still on their rookie deals in 2023, Williams figures to garner a similar depth role next season and will remain on the outskirts of fantasy relevancy.

Commanders' Jonathan Williams: Held to 41 yards in start
Williams took 14 carries for 32 yards and two catches for nine yards in Sunday's 26-6 win over Dallas.
Williams got the third start of his career three weeks before his 29th birthday, though Jaret Patterson finished with more carries and yards (17 for 78) with both Antonio Gibson (foot, IR) and Brian Robinson (knee, inactive) sidelined for the season finale. Williams is scheduled to become an unrestricted free agent this offseason and should find an opportunity -- be it in Washington or elsewhere -- to compete for a special-teams role and depth RB job.
