  • Eagles' Eli Harold: Traded to Eagles

Harold was traded to Philadelphia from Buffalo in exchange for Ryan Bates on Friday, Chris Brown of the Bills' official site reports.

Harold signed with the Bills in April after coming off of a four-sack season for the Lions in 2018. He played primarily outside linebacker in his first-four seasons but was converted to a 4-3 defensive end in his brief stint with Buffalo. The Eagles also run a 4-3 defense and they'll likely elect to use Harold as a defensive end as well. He projects as a backup defender and special teams player with Philadelphia.

  • Bills' Eli Harold: Could undergo position change

GM Brandon Beane said Monday that the team sees Harold as a defensive end in the Bills' 4-3 set, Chris Brown of the team's official site reports.

Harold signed with Buffalo in the offseason after he spent the past four seasons with Detroit and San Francisco, primarily playing at linebacker. The 24-year-old set a career mark in sacks last season with four, so he's capable of handling an edge rush role. Listed at just 243 pounds, some added bulk this offseason could help him if he wants to establish himself at his new position.

  • Lions' Eli Harold: Logs sack on third down

Harold logged two tackles, one sack and one pass breakup during Sunday's loss to the Rams.

Harold's fourth sack of the season set a new career high, and it came at a critical time for the Lions, considering it forced a critical three-and-out. However, the edge rusher is still seeing up-and-down playing time and, consequently, hasn't been a consistent producer in the tackle column, making it impossible to endorse Harold as a worthwhile IDP option.

The Lions sent the 49ers a 2020 conditional seventh-round pick for Harold (knee) on Thursday, Kyle Meinke of MLive.com reports.

Harold bruised his knee in the Niners' first preseason game, but it appears he shook the issue. The 24-year-old played in situational roles the last two seasons, making 71 tackles and five sacks. • 49ers' Eli Harold: Knee issue not considered serious

Harold (knee) is being considered day-to-day after suffering a knee contusion in Thursday's preseason opener, Matt Maiocco of NBC Sports Bay Area reports.

It sounds like Harold will return sometime before the regular season kicks off, where he projects to start at weakside linebacker. Harold was one of several 49ers players who sustained injuries in the preseason opener. The extent of the 24-year-old's injury is unclear at the moment. • 49ers' Eli Harold: Records 34 tackles

Harold totaled 34 tackles (26 solo) to go along with a pair of sacks in 16 games during the 2017 season.

The third-year linebacker surprisingly beat out Ahmad Brooks -- who was subsequently released -- for the starting weak-side linebacker job during training camp. While he spent a good chunk of the year as a starter, his IDP numbers were fairly underwhelming. That was partly due to his position not being a part of defensive passing formations, but it is worth noting that Brock Coyle turned in far superior totals after taking over the same role down the stretch. The rebuilding 49ers wanted to get a look at Harold, but judging from his lack of involvement during the second half of the season, it would stand to reason that he would have to fight for a spot on the 53-man roster in his final contract year.
