Top Hayes Pullard News

  • Hayes Pullard: Hanging up cleats

Pullard accepted a position with USC's football staff on Thursday, effectively announcing his retirement from the NFL.

A 2015 seventh-round pick, Pullard logged two seasons each with the Jaguars and Chargers. In his career-best 2017 campaign with Los Angeles, Pullard notched a respectable 74 total tackles, one interception, one defended pass and one fumble recovery. The former USC standout will now rejoin his alma mater's football program in a defensive quality control role.

  • Eagles' Hayes Pullard: Latches on with Philly

Pullard signed a contract with the Eagles on Tuesday, per the NFL's official transaction log.

Pullard was released by the Cardinals on Sunday, only a few weeks after signing with the team. The 27-year-old had a productive 74-tackle season with the Chargers in 2017, but he had only 18 tackles in nine games last season.

  • Hayes Pullard: Let go by Arizona

The Cardinals released Pullard on Sunday, Darren Urban of the team's official site reports.

Pullard recently signed a contract with the team at the beginning of August, but was unable to make an impression. The 27-year-old could be an attractive depth option for another club, considering he made 18 tackles (13 solo) last season in nine games with the Chargers.

  • Cardinals' Hayes Pullard: Heading to Arizona

Pullard signed a contract with the Cardinals on Friday.

Pullard spent the last two seasons with the Chargers. The former seventh-round pick saw his role decrease in 2018 after logging 74 total tackles, an interception and a fumble recovery over 13 games in the 2017 campaign.

  • Chargers' Hayes Pullard: Rejoins Chargers

Pullard signed a contract with the Chargers on Wednesday.

Pullard's place on the active roster comes following Los Angeles' decision to waive kicker Michael Badgley. The fourth-year linebacker appeared in 13 games for the Chargers last year, recording 74 tackles, one interception and one fumble. Pullard is expected to enter the team's middle linebacker rotation.

  • Chargers' Hayes Pullard: Leads team in tackles

Pullard recorded eight tackles (four solo) and recovered a fumble in the Chargers' 14-7 win Sunday over the Jets.

Pullard filled in admirably for starting middle linebacker Denzel Perryman, who missed Sunday's game due to a hamstring injury. Dan Woike of the Los Angeles Times reported Perryman could be available in Week 17, meaning Pullard likely would lose his luster as an IDP option if he returned to his role as a backup linebacker.

  • Chargers' Hayes Pullard: Active vs. Dallas

Pullard (neck) was active for Thursday's game against the Cowboys.

Pullard was listed as a full participant all week in practice, so his status Thursday hardly comes as a surprise. Pullard's return is big for the Chargers' defensive front, as the linebacker recorded at least eight tackles in four straight games before suffering the injury.

  • Chargers' Hayes Pullard: Questionable for Thursday

Pullard (neck) is listed as questionable for Thursday's game against the Cowboys.

Though the Chargers' practices were of lower intensity than normal this week due to the lack of time off between games, Pullard's full participation in sessions Tuesday and Wednesday seemingly put him on track to return from a two-game absence. Prior to missing time, Pullard had recorded at least eight tackles in each of his last four contests, but his opportunities could take a hit with linebacker Denzel Perryman having since returned from injured reserve.

  • Chargers' Hayes Pullard: Limited Tuesday

Pullard (neck) was limited in Tuesday's practice session.

Pullard missed the Chargers' past two games due to his neck injury, but his limited participation in practice suggests he's on track to play in Thursday's tilt against Dallas.

  • Chargers' Hayes Pullard: Will sit Week 11

Pullard (neck) is officially inactive for Sunday's game against the BIlls.

Pullard was listed as doubtful so not playing Sunday was to be expected. Jatavis Brown should step in at inside linebacker for the Chargers in Pullard's absence against the Bills.

  • Chargers' Hayes Pullard: Doubtful for Sunday

Pullard (neck) is listed as doubtful for Sunday's game against the Bills.

Pullard only put in a limited practice session Friday after not playing in last Sunday's loss to the Jaguars. The 25-year-old seems to be day-to-day at this point, with Jatavis Brown likely to step in against the Bills on Sunday.

  • Chargers' Hayes Pullard: Inactive for Week 10

Pullard (neck) is inactive for Sunday's game against the Jaguars.

Pullard was a limited participant in practices throughout the week with the neck injury, and it apparently wasn't enough for him to receive the green light to play Sunday. Though the Chargers activated Denzel Perryman (ankle) from injured reserve earlier this week, it's expected that Pullard, who has three double-digit tackle games on his ledger this season, will retain a starting role at inside linebacker once healthy, resulting in fewer snaps for the likes of Jatavis Brown and Korey Toomer.

  • Chargers' Hayes Pullard: Officially questionable

Pullard (neck) is officially listed as questionable for Sunday's game versus the Jaguars, Ricky Henne of the Chargers' official site reports.

Pullard is considered a true game-time decision for the contest. If he is unable to go, Denzel Perryman figures to see an increased role at middle linebacker, while Korey Toomer and Jatavis Brown should also see some increased run.

  • Chargers' Hayes Pullard: Will remain as starting middle linebacker

Pullard (neck) will stick around in a starting role at inside linebacker, despite Denzel Perryman's (ankle) return to action in Week 10 against the Jaguars, Dan Woike of the Los Angeles Times reports.

Pullard has certainly earned his stay in the lineup, recording at least eight tackles in each of the last four games. Perryman will take over as the weakside linebacker, bumping down Jatavis Brown's snaps as a result. Despite the shakeup in the linebacking corps, there's a chance that Perryman does move back inside if Pullard's play slips, but at least for the moment, it's Pullard's job to lose.

  • Chargers' Hayes Pullard: Piles up 12 tackles

Pullard piled up 12 tackles (10 solo) in Sunday's 21-13 loss to the Patriots.

Once again, Pullard saw the majority of snaps at linebacker, with Korey Toomer occasionally acting as the second middle linebacker. While Pullard did get dinged up late in the fourth quarter, the injury didn't appear to be serious. Given the Chargers will be on bye next week, the versatile linebacker should be available for IDP owners come Week 10 against the Jaguars.

  • Chargers' Hayes Pullard: Piles on eight tackles

Pullard earned eight tackles in the 21-0 win over the Broncos on Sunday.

Pullard led all Chargers linebackers in snaps by a wide margin, as defensive coordinator Gus Bradley opted to use a wide variety of safeties to provide versatility to the scheme. Given the results, it wouldn't be a surprise to see a similar scenario play out against the pass-heavy Patriots next week.

  • Chargers' Hayes Pullard: Leads team in tackles again

Pullard racked up 10 tackles (two solo) and an interception in Sunday's 17-16 win over the Raiders.

It was the first interception of Pullard's career and couldn't have come at a better time, given that the Chargers managed to rally in the fourth quarter thanks in large part to the pivotal pick. Pullard has been easily the biggest surprise on the Chargers defense, leading the unit in tackles for the second consecutive week despite being listed as a depth linebacker to begin the season. Given that Pullard played in 93 percent of the team's snaps -- while Korey Toomer and Jatavis Brown logged just 59 and 34 percent, respectively -- it seems the 25-year-old is no longer merely a depth option. As a result, IDP owners would be hard-pressed to find a better under-the-radar player to fill in for their teams.

  • Chargers' Hayes Pullard: Leads team in tackles

Pullard finished Sunday's 27-22 win over the Giants with eight tackles (seven solo).

Pullard continues to be one of the biggest surprises of the Chargers' linebacking core, as the third-year pro has now accumulated at least six tackles in every game he's played in. While Pullard's days as an IDP option may be coming to close once Denzel Perryman returns from an ankle injury, the oft-injured second-year linebacker is not designated to return from the injured reserve list until Week 8. As a result, Pullard remains an under-the-radar name for IDP owners looking for a quality stand-in.

  • Chargers' Hayes Pullard: Full practice participant

Pullard (knee) practiced in full capacity Thursday.

Pullard seems to slot in as a second-string linebacker, but he played a majority of defensive snaps through the first two weeks before his injury. He recorded 17 tackles (10 solo) and likely earned himself more playing time moving forward. He's not quite yet there as a full-fledged IDP threat, though, since it's his first season in which he's playing more on defense than special teams.
