James Wilder: Switching to linebacker
Wilder is switching from running back to linebacker for the 2017 season, Matt Baker of the Tampa Bay Times reports.
Wilder spent 2014 and 2015 on practice squads as a running back and had his 2016 season cut short due to a head injury. He hasn't played defense since high school, where he was one of the best defenders in his area. He isn't currently with a team, and he's free to sign at any point.

Bills' James Wilder: Reverts back to injured reserve
Wilder (head) has passed through waivers and has landed on the Bills' injured reserve list, ESPN's Mike Rodak reports.
Perhaps he'll get a chance to make an NFL roster at some other time, but Buffalo had a logjam at running back all preseason and Wilder didn't do enough to get over the hump. His injury in the last preseason game didn't help either.

James Wilder: Misses final RB spot
Wilder (head) was cut Friday, BuffaloBills.com reports.
The Bills kept four running backs, but Wilder was never really in the running once Rex Ryan committed to Mike Gilleslee as the main backup behind LeSean McCoy.

Bills' James Wilder: Injured in final preseason game
Wilder was hurt on a special teams play in the preseason finale against the Lions and was forced to leave in the first half, BuffaloBills.com reports. The running back has been placed in the league's concussion protocol.
This is awful timing for a guy trying to land a final roster spot. We'll see how things shake out when the Bills make their final cuts.

Bills' James Wilder: Still buried on dept hchart.
Wilder had six carries for 21 yards in Friday's preseason game against Washington.
Even with Karlos Williams released, LeSean McCoy sitting out, and Mike Gillislee (concussion) unavailable, Wilder was only the fourth Buffalo running back to get work, trailing Reggie Bush, Jonathan Williams and Dan Herron. Unless Gillislee is still injured as the season approaches, Wilder appears unlikely to make the final roster.

Bills' James Wilder: Gets big workload Saturday
Wilder carried the ball 11 times for 31 yards in Saturday's preseason win over the Giants.
The Bills cut Karlos Williams earlier Saturday, which gives Wilder a legit shot to make the team. With Reggie Bush and rookie Jonathan Williams being the two most likely candidates to land the top backup spots behind LeSean McCoy, it may come down to one spot for Wilder, Mike Gillislee, or Boom Herron.
