Joe Walker: Released by Arizona
The Cardinals released Walker on Monday, Darren Urban of the team's official site reports.
Walker spent three of his first five NFL seasons in Arizona, and aside from 2019, operated mostly on special teams. The 29-year-old linebacker will have to look for a new NFL opportunity ahead of Week 1, but it's unclear how much attention he'll receive as a free agent.

Cardinals' Joe Walker: Elevated from practice squad
Walker was elevated to the main roster as a COVID replacement for running back Jonathan Ward, Aaron Wilson of Sportstalk 790 Houston reports.
Walker has been active for seven games this season for the Cardinals, mostly seeing action on special teams. The five-year-pro hasn't played a significant role since 2019 and will likely serve as emergency linebacker depth and a contributor on special teams, if he suits up Monday against the Rams.

Joe Walker: Time up in Washington
The Football Team released Walker on Monday, Ben Standig of The Athletic reports.
Walker appeared in 12 games for the 49ers last season, in which span he notched six tackles while mostly contributing on special teams. He could resurface with a similar role elsewhere in the league.

49ers' Joe Walker: In lineup for Week 12
Walker (undisclosed) is active for San Francisco's Week 12 matchup at the Rams.
Walker spent nine days on the reserve/COVID-19 list between Nov. 19 and Nov. 28, but he didn't have to miss any game action with San Francisco taking its bye over Week 12. Because of Demetrius Flannigan-Fowles (hamstring) being ruled out for Sunday's contest, Walker is in line to get the start at weakside linebacker.

49ers' Joe Walker: Returns from COVID list
Walker (undisclosed) was activated from the reserve/COVID-19 list Saturday and is questionable for Sunday's game against the Rams, Matt Barrows of The Athletic reports.
The 27-year-old landed on the COVID-19 during San Francisco's bye week, but he may not end up missing a game. Walker has played only 14 offensive snaps in six games this season, so he's unlikely to be significantly involved defensively, even if he suits up Sunday.

49ers' Joe Walker: Hits COVID list
The 49ers placed Walker on the reserve/COVID-19 list Thursday.
It's unclear whether Walker tested positive for the virus or came into close contact with someone who did. The good news is that the 49ers enter their bye week in Week 11, so he'll have a few extra days to clear through the league's protocols before being granted clearance to return.

49ers' Joe Walker: Receives promotion
The 49ers signed Walker to the active roster Wednesday.
Walker has been on the 49ers' practice squad this season, and he's been elevated to the active roster twice. The 27-year-old linebacker now has some security on the 53-man roster. He likely won't play much on defense barring an injury, but it's noteworthy that Kwon Alexander is dealing with an ankle injury. If Alexander misses time, Walker could log a handful of snaps.

49ers' Joe Walker: Back in Bay Area
The 49ers elevated Walker to the 53-man roster from the practice squad Sunday.
With Dre Greenlaw nursing a quadriceps injury and out for Week 3, San Francisco elected to go with in-house reinforcements. Walker was solid for the Cardinals in 2019, racking up 65 tackles (41 solo) and a forced fumble across all 16 games in that span.

Joe Walker: Let go by Niners
Walker was waived by the 49ers on Saturday.
Walker started 11 games in Arizona last season and recorded 65 tackles, but trying out with the dominant 49ers defense is a different story. While he couldn't make the cut with them, the 27-year-old stands a good chance to make another roster in a reserve role.

49ers' Joe Walker: Inks deal with San Fran
The 49ers and Walker agreed to a one-year contract Monday, Tom Pelissero of NFL Network reports.
Walker kicked off last season primarily as a special-teamer but eventually took over for Haason Reddick at inside linebacker, notching 56 tackles and one forced fumbled over the final nine games. In San Francisco, Walker will be behind a formidable LB trio of Fred Warner, Dre Greenlaw and Kwon Alexander (biceps), likely relegating him to special teams yet again with the chance to elevate in the event of an injury.

Cardinals' Joe Walker: Develops into starter in 2019
Walker notched 65 tackles (41 solo) and forced one fumble in 16 games during the 2019 campaign.
Walker was a seventh-round pick of the Eagles in 2016 and landed in Arizona in September of 2018 after his original team waived him. Solely a special-teamer last season, he worked his way into a regular role this past fall, supplanting Haason Reddick as a starting inside linebacker Week 7 and holding onto the job thereafter. Walker's output was inconsistent, as he reached double-digit tackles on two occasions but also fell shy of six stops five times over the last 10 games. Walker is an exclusive-rights free agent this offseason, so he'll only be able to sign with the Cardinals if the team opts to tender him a contract.

Walker (rib) practiced fully Thursday, Scott Bordow of The Athletic reports.
After being limited during Wednesday's session, Walker practiced fully Thursday and appears all set to take the field for Sunday's divisional clash with the Seahawks. The linebacker compiled seven tackles (five solo) and forced a fumble against the Browns in Week 15.

Cardinals' Joe Walker: Nursing rib injury
Walker has a rib injury and was a limited practice participant Wednesday, Darren Urban of the Cardinals' official site reports.
Walker had seven tackles and a forced fumble during Sunday's win over the Browns, but he apparently picked up the rib injury at some point. The 27-year-old still seems like a solid bet to play Week 16 since he was still able to practice in some capacity.

Cardinals' Joe Walker: Accrues seven tackles Sunday
Walker emerged from Sunday's 38-24 victory against the Browns with seven tackles (five solo) and one forced fumble.
Walker didn't tally a tackle until the second quarter, but once he was on the ledger, he didn't stop. He culminated his day with a fourth-quarter hit on Ricky Seals-Jones that caused the tight end to cough up the ball and resulted in a recovery and 24-yard return by teammate Jalen Thompson. The play set up the Cardinals' drive to its final three points of the game, and Walker left it having accumulated 39 tackles (29 solo) over the last eight games, all of them starts at inside linebacker.

Walker (ribs) is active for Sunday's game against the Browns, Darren Urban of the Cardinals' official site reports.
Walker has slowly taken over the starting inside linebacker role this year, playing every snap over the last two weeks. The fourth-year pro recorded 11 tackles (10 solo) over the last two weeks, and he'll be tasked with slowing down Nick Chubb and Kareem Hunt in this contest.
