John Johnson: Suspension lifted
Johnson had his three-game suspension lifted ahead of Week 4, per the NFL's official transaction log.
Johnson opened the season with a three-game suspension, but the reason was never disclosed. Nonetheless, the safety will now look to sign with a team in an attempt to play this year. Johnson appeared in two games with the Rams last season, recording eight total tackles (four solo) and an interception.

John Johnson: Faces three-game suspension
Johnson was suspended three games Wednesday, Tom Pelissero of NFL Network reports.
The reason for Johnson's suspension wasn't immediately disclosed. The 2017 third-round pick isn't currently signed to a team, and he likely won't get an opportunity until Week 4 at the earliest. Johnson suffered a fractured scapula in Week 2 last season and didn't return until the playoffs. Once he serves his suspension, the 29-year-old safety has a decent chance to find a roster spot due to his past starting experience.

Rams' John Johnson: Plays two regular-season games
Johnson recorded eight tackles (four solo) and one pass defensed, including one interception, across two regular-season appearances with the Rams in 2024.
Johnson also suited up for Los Angeles' wild-card round win over the Vikings, though he played only four defensive snaps during the contest. The veteran safety missed the majority of the 2024 campaign due to a hairline fracture of his scapula suffered Week 2, but he likely enters the offseason at full health. He's set to become an unrestricted free agent.

Rams' John Johnson: Activated Tuesday
Johnson (shoulder) was activated from injured reserve by the Rams on Tuesday.
The safety had already been designated to return earlier in the day. Johnson, who landed on IR on Sept. 18 after suffering a hairline fracture of his scapula in Week 2, has actually been healthy for weeks, but the Rams used up their designations for return during the regular season and had to wait for their two available postseason designations, per Cameron DaSilva of USA Today. Johnson's practice status will be worth monitoring ahead of Monday night's wild-card matchup with the Vikings, but he appears on track to play.

Rams' John Johnson: Cleared to practice
The Rams designated Johnson (shoulder) for return from injured reserve Tuesday.
Johnson was placed on IR on Sept. 18 after suffering a hairline fracture of his scapula in a Week 2 loss to Arizona, but Cameron DaSilva of USA Today relays that the safety has been healthy for weeks. However, because the Rams had exhausted its amount of eligible designations for return during the regular season, the team couldn't open Johnson's 21-day practice window until this week, as Los Angeles is now able to designate two additional players for return from reserve lists during the postseason. Assuming Johnson is a full participant in practice this week, he could be added back to the 53-man roster in advance of Monday's wild-card round game against the Vikings.

Rams' John Johnson: Moves to IR
Johnson (shoulder) was placed on injured reserve Wednesday.
Johnson suffered a hairline fracture of his scapula during Sunday's 41-10 loss to the Cardinals and was expected to miss four to six weeks. Considering the recovery timeline, his move to injured reserve makes sense. He'll be eligible to return Oct. 24 against the Vikings if he can make a quick recovery. In the meantime, Kamren Kinchens should handle the workload at free safety.

Rams' John Johnson: Likely out 4-to-6 weeks
Johnson is expected to miss 4-to-6 weeks after suffering a hairline fracture of his scapula during Sunday's 41-10 loss to the Cardinals, Cameron DaSilva of USA Today reports.
Johnson logged eight total tackles and one interception over 58 defensive snaps this season before going down with the shoulder injury. The 28-year-old could be placed on injured reserve, which would keep him out for at least the Rams' next four contests. Expect rookie third-round pick Kamren Kinchens to see increased work in the Rams secondary while Johnson recovers.

Rams' John Johnson: Hurts shoulder Week 2
Johnson suffered a shoulder injury during Sunday's game against the Cardinals and is questionable to return, Jourdan Rodrigue of The Athletic reports.
Johnson's injury took place in the third quarter with the Rams trailing by a sizeable margin. Prior to getting hurt, he recorded two tackles. Kamren Kinchens could get more reps in the secondary while Johnson is sidelined.

Rams' John Johnson: Picks off Goff
Johnson recorded six tackles (two solo), an interception and a pass defended during Sunday's 26-20 overtime loss to the Lions.
Despite only being on the field for 38 of the Rams' 61 defensive snaps, the veteran made his presence felt in the fourth quarter by intercepting a Jared Goff pass intended for Amon-Ra St. Brown. The Rams then marched down the field and scored a touchdown to take the lead thanks in large part to Johnson's key interception. A Cardinals pass attack that mustered just 162 yards against the Bills lies in wait for Johnson and the Rams defense in Week 2.

Rams' John Johnson: Re-ups with Los Angeles
The Rams announced Thursday that Johnson has agreed to re-sign with the team.
Johnson suited up for all 17 regular-season games with Los Angeles last season, but he played a reduced role at safety. His 490 defensive snaps would've been a career-low mark, save for the 2019 season, when he played 403 snaps across just six games. The veteran saw an uptick in snaps after the team's Week 10 bye, however, eventually earning an every-down role. Now, Johnson either stands to reprise a reserve job or to compete with Russ Yeast for a starting gig during training camp.
