Rams' John Johnson: Moves to IR
Johnson (shoulder) was placed on injured reserve Wednesday.
Johnson suffered a hairline fracture of his scapula during Sunday's 41-10 loss to the Cardinals and was expected to miss four to six weeks. Considering the recovery timeline, his move to injured reserve makes sense. He'll be eligible to return Oct. 24 against the Vikings if he can make a quick recovery. In the meantime, Kamren Kinchens should handle the workload at free safety.

Rams' John Johnson: Likely out 4-to-6 weeks
Johnson is expected to miss 4-to-6 weeks after suffering a hairline fracture of his scapula during Sunday's 41-10 loss to the Cardinals, Cameron DaSilva of USA Today reports.
Johnson logged eight total tackles and one interception over 58 defensive snaps this season before going down with the shoulder injury. The 28-year-old could be placed on injured reserve, which would keep him out for at least the Rams' next four contests. Expect rookie third-round pick Kamren Kinchens to see increased work in the Rams secondary while Johnson recovers.

Rams' John Johnson: Hurts shoulder Week 2
Johnson suffered a shoulder injury during Sunday's game against the Cardinals and is questionable to return, Jourdan Rodrigue of The Athletic reports.

Rams' John Johnson: Picks off Goff
Johnson recorded six tackles (two solo), an interception and a pass defended during Sunday's 26-20 overtime loss to the Lions.
Despite only being on the field for 38 of the Rams' 61 defensive snaps, the veteran made his presence felt in the fourth quarter by intercepting a Jared Goff pass intended for Amon-Ra St. Brown. The Rams then marched down the field and scored a touchdown to take the lead thanks in large part to Johnson's key interception. A Cardinals pass attack that mustered just 162 yards against the Bills lies in wait for Johnson and the Rams defense in Week 2.

Rams' John Johnson: Re-ups with Los Angeles
The Rams announced Thursday that Johnson has agreed to re-sign with the team.
Johnson suited up for all 17 regular-season games with Los Angeles last season, but he played a reduced role at safety. His 490 defensive snaps would've been a career-low mark, save for the 2019 season, when he played 403 snaps across just six games. The veteran saw an uptick in snaps after the team's Week 10 bye, however, eventually earning an every-down role. Now, Johnson either stands to reprise a reserve job or to compete with Russ Yeast for a starting gig during training camp.

Rams' John Johnson: Sees role reduce in return to Rams
Johnson recorded 42 tackles (24 solo), six passes defended and two interceptions during the 2023 regular season.
After two years as a starter with Cleveland, Johnson returned to the team that took him in the third round in 2017 as a depth piece, but he was able to crack the starting rotation at safety after a Week 10 bye, producing modest numbers but a career low in tackles and his lowest snap count since an injury-shortened 2019 campaign. Johnson is an unrestricted free agent and would likely be looking at a reserve role again should he choose to return to the Rams.

Rams' John Johnson: Notches second pick in three games
Johnson recorded three tackles (two solo), an interception and a pass defended during Sunday's 28-20 victory against the Commanders.
Johnson continued to see considerable usage on defense, coming three snaps shy of playing every down for the third straight game. The safety was able to pick off Sam Howell early in the fourth quarter on a pass intended for Terry McLaurin, and will look to keep harvesting picks against Derek Carr and a shorthanded Saints receiving corps on Thursday night in Week 16.

Rams' John Johnson: Snags pick versus former team
Johnson registered six tackles (one solo), two pass deflections and an interception during the Rams' 36-19 win over Cleveland on Sunday.
Johnson had his best game of the season versus his former team Sunday, as he managed to record his first interception of the current campaign. The 27-year-old could see his role decrease in the upcoming matchup with the Ravens if Quentin Lake (hamstring) returns to action.

Johnson is active Sunday against the Colts after dealing with a facial injury during the week, Gary Klein of the Los Angeles Times reports.

Rams' John Johnson: Pops up on injury report
Johnson is listed as questionable for Sunday's contest against the Colts due to a facial injury, Adam Caplan of SiriusXM NFL Radio report.
Johnson was a full participant at practice all week before logging a DNP on Friday. It is unclear what exactly happened, but his status for Week 4 will now be determined Sunday morning. Quentin Lake could potentially see some extra snaps providing depth at safety behind Jordan Fuller and Russ Yeast should Johnson ultimately get ruled out.

Rams' John Johnson: Zero defensive snaps in Week 1
Johnson recorded one tackle in Sunday's 30-13 win over the Seahawks.
Johnson was limited to only 10 total snaps, all on special teams. His production will likely be rather minimal in 2023 if he remains a reserve option behind Russ Yeast at free safety.

Rams' John Johnson: Returns to where he started
Johnson signed a one-year contract with the Rams on Monday, Jeremy Fowler of ESPN.com reports.
Johnson spent the last two seasons in Cleveland after spending the first four years of his career in Los Angeles. The 27-year-old was a cap casualty for the Browns in February despite playing a prominent role in the team's secondary. He finished the 2022 campaign with 101 tackles, four passes defended, two forced fumbles and fumble recoveries apiece and an interception. He should compete for the starting free safety spot with the Rams.
