  • Reuben Foster: Working out for Jets

The Jets are hosting Foster (knee) for a tryout Thursday, Ian Rapoport of NFL Network reports.

Foster hasn't appeared in NFL action since the 2018 season, when he suited up for six games with the 49ers. He missed the last two seasons due to a torn ACL and LCL, but Foster will now get a chance to prove his health by working out for New York. The Jets are in need of depth and upside in the linebacker corps, so the team could take a chance on the 2017 first-round pick.

  • Football Team's Reuben Foster: Placed on IR

Foster (knee) was placed on injured reserve Saturday, John Keim of ESPN.com reports.

Washington hasn't listed the exact reason for the IR designation, but all indications seem to be because of the torn ACL and LCL that the linebacker suffered last May. As a result, Foster will not be eligible to play until the 2021 campaign.

  • Football Team's Reuben Foster: Activated from PUP list

The Washington Football Team has activated Foster (knee) off its active/PUP list, ESPN's John Keim reports.

Foster, who tore the ACL and LCL in his left knee and also suffered nerve damage in his foot last May, now will have a chance to compete for a starting outside linebacker slot in Washington's 4-3 defense. The 2017 first-rounder last appeared in a regular-season game in October 2018. In 16 NFL contests, Foster has logged 101 tackles.

  • Football Team's Reuben Foster: Lands on PUP

Foster (knee) has been placed on the PUP list to start training camp, Tom Pelissero of NFL Network reports.

This gives Washington the option to keep Foster on the PUP list for the regular season, which then would rule him out for the first six weeks. However, he won't be able to practice until he's removed from the list, so the team will need to activate him at some point in training camp if it wants him to have a shot at playing early in the season. The 2017 first-round pick was on track for a starting job in Washington last spring before a knee injury during OTAs wiped out his 2019 campaign. Foster tore both the ACL and LCL in his left knee, with the initial injury then leading to numbness in his lower leg and toes. Rhiannon Walker of The Athletic reports that Foster wasn't able to pass the football portion of his pre-camp physical exam.

  • Redskins' Reuben Foster: Fifth-year option declined

The Redskins have opted not to pick up Foster's (knee) fifth-year option, The Washington Post reports.

Foster has yet to play a down for Washington since the team controversially claimed him off waivers following his arrest and subsequent release from the 49ers amid domestic abuse allegations. He's not expected to face any punishment from the league at this time, so Foster could be in line to open the season as a starter, assuming his knee is in good shape by the time the regular season fires up.

  • Redskins' Reuben Foster: Making progress in recovery

Foster (knee) has regained feeling in his toes and will try to be ready for the offseason program, Cam Inman of The Mercury News reports.

The injury Foster sustained last May was so serious that he temporarily lost feeling in his lower leg and toes due to ligament damage. However, he's regained that feeling, and "the next 60 days" will be more telling about Foster's recovery. There's a chance the 25-year-old will be ready for the 2020 season, but he still has multiple hurdles to get over first.

  • Redskins' Reuben Foster: Undergoes successful surgery

Foster (knee) underwent successful surgery Wednesday to repair a torn ACL, JP Finlay of NBC Sports Washington reports.

Foster suffered ligament damage to his knee in a freak accident at OTAs last week. He's likely looking at a 9-to-10-month timeline for his recovery. The newly signed Jon Bostic has taken Foster's place at inside linebacker alongside Mason Foster at recent practices.

  • Redskins' Reuben Foster: Officially lands on IR

Washington placed Foster (knee) on injured reserve Wednesday, Tarik El-Bashir of The Athletic reports.

The transaction was a foregone conclusion after Les Carpenter of The Washington Post reported Tuesday that Foster suffered a torn ACL during a freak fall at Monday's practice. The fact Washington is placing Foster on IR right away rather than the Physically Unable to Perform list doesn't bode well for the young linebacker's chances of eventually making his way back on the field in 2019. Washington signed Jon Bostic on Wednesday to take Foster's place on the roster, but Shaun Dion Hamilton, Josh Harvey-Clemons and Cole Holcomb could also make a case for snaps at inside linebacker alongside Mason Foster. It's expected that Foster will undergo surgery on his left knee once the swelling subsides.
