After linebacker Shayne Skov (knee) was placed on injured reserve, the 49ers promoted the safety they originally signed to the practice squad just a week ago. Ball is likely to compete with fellow safety Vinnie Sunseri for special teams reps behind starter Marcus Cromartie.
